Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

UAH Ends 2017 with Rout of Visiting Shorter

HUNTSVILLE | The University of Alabama in Huntsville men's lacrosse team ended the 2017 season, doubling its win total from a year ago while setting the program's single-game record for goals in a 23-4 rout over visiting Shorter. The Chargers end the year at 6-7, while the Hawks fall to 0-14.

The game was called with 2:03 left in the fourth quarter due to lightning in the area that had already delayed the start of the game and that had interrupted the contest earlier in the final frame.

Turning Point
-Luke LeVette started the scoring just over two minutes into the contest, and the Chargers would not look back en route to holding a 6-1 advantage at the end of the first quarter.

Inside the Box Score
-LeVette finished the night with seven goals and an assist for eight points, and he was one of seven Chargers to finish the night with multiple points.
-Kevin Coppinger had five points on the evening on the strength of three goals and two assists, and his goal-scoring performance was matched by Bryant Baus who also scored three times.
-Scoring once and assisting on three other goals to finish with four points was Jack Utrevis, while Cole Fagrie with two goals and an assist and Jake Fowler with a goal and two helpers both ended the game with three points.
-Rounding out the top offensive performers, Adam Zois scored once and assisted on another to tally two points.
-In his final game as a Charger, Michl McNeil was strong in goal, allowing just four scores by the Hawks while stopping 10 shots in picking up his sixth victory of the season.
-Fowler was strong in faceoffs once again, going 19-for-26 on the night, while Zois was 3-for-4.
-James Cox – who also scored a goal – led the team with seven ground balls.

Noteworthy
-LeVette eclipses his own school record for goals in a game with the seven, and the freshman concludes his debut season in the Rocket City with 31 goals and 17 assists for a UAH single-season record 48 points.
-Coppinger closes out the campaign with 36 points from 23 goals and 13 assists, and he now has 65 points for his career as he surpasses the 29 that he recorded last year.
-McNeil's 10-save showing is his eighth of the season in which he recorded double figures in stops.
-Fowler finishes the season winning 60 percent of his faceoffs by going 189-for-315, and he also ends the year as UAH's leader in ground balls with 49.
-As a special pregame surprise to its players, the UAH coaching staff pulled the team off the field during warm-ups to have the squad change into its black uniforms for the season finale.
