No. 11 Valdosta State Wins Series Finale Sunday

HUNTSVILLE | The No. 23 University of Alabama in Huntsville softball team dropped the series finale with visiting No. 11 Valdosta State on Sunday, falling 9-0 at Charger Park. UAH slips to 31-11 (17-7 Gulf South Conference), while the Blazers improve to 29-12 (16-8 GSC).

Game Changer
-The guests totaled 15 hits and had baserunners in all but one inning while also limiting the Chargers to just three hits to help secure the win.

Inside the Box Score
-The top four spots in the lineup had 10 of Valdosta State's hits with each of Jessica Mohl, Hayley Cruthers, and Taylor Hartenbach recording a three-hit day, and both Cruthers and Brandy Morgan drove in three runs in the game.
-Reagan Malone, Shannon Long, and Emily Glover had the hits for UAH, and Malone's was a triple in the fourth.
-Kathryn Carter picked up the win for VSU in the circle as she allowed just the three hits, while Tyler Harrison was charged with the loss for UAH.

Key Plays
-VSU got on the board with a sac fly in the top half of the first, and a double from Cruthers in the third drove in a pair of runs to make it a 3-0 lead.
-Malone's triple lead off the fourth, but Carter retired the next three UAH batters to keep the hosts from scoring.
-The guests made it a 5-0 lead with a pair of unearned runs in the fifth, and nine batters went to the plate in the seventh for VSU as the Blazers added four more runs to create the 9-0 final.

Noteworthy
-Malone takes over the team lead in triples with her third of the season, and that mark is one better than the total for the team last season.

Next Time Out
-With no mid-week games slated for this week, the Chargers will be off until next weekend when the team travels to Mississippi College. The series will start with a single game Friday night at 5:30 p.m. in Clinton, Mississippi.
