UAH Falls to No. 15 UCM, Tops OBU on Friday

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. | The University of Alabama in Huntsville volleyball team opened play at the Holiday Inn Spikefest at Arkansas Tech on Friday with a loss to No. 15 Central Missouri by a 3-0 score (31-33, 20-25, 11-25) and a win over Ouachita Baptist by a score of 3-0 (25-22, 25-21, 27-25). UAH now owns a 9-2 overall record, while UCM improves to 7-3 and OBU moves to 8-3.
 
Game One: UCM 3, UAH 0 (31-33, 20-25, 11-25)
Turning Point
- After a hard-fought battle between the Chargers and Jennies in the first set with UCM coming away with a 33-31 win, Central Missouri posted a 25-20 win in the second frame on the way to the 3-0 match victory over UAH.
 
Inside the Box Score
- Haley Hop headlined the Chargers defense with a 24-dig performance in addition to posting one service ace.
- Isabelle Barnes and Anna LeDuc tied for the team lead with five kills apiece, followed by Lorah Yonce with four successful swats.
- Kirsten Giles notched a double-double 15 assists and 10 digs as well as a team-high two service aces.
- Caroline Sanford paced the squad with three total blocks while Anna Claire Whaley rated second on the roster with two total blocks.
 
Noteworthy
- Hop achieved her 1000th career dig with her third scoop of the contest.
- Hop's 24 digs are a season-high.
 
Game Two: UAH 3, OBU 0 (25-22, 25-21, 27-25)
Turning Point
- With the Chargers leading the match 2-0 and trailing 23-21 in the third frame. UAH proceeded to outscore OBU 6-2 over the final eight volleys for the 3-0 match victory on the 27-25 win in the third set.
 
Inside the Box Score
- Anna Claire Johnson paced the UAH attack with 11 kills, followed by Caroline Sanford, Anna LeDuc and Lorah Yonce with seven kills apiece.
- Sanford led all Chargers with 10 or more attacks with a .333 hitting percentage.
- Kirsten Giles turned in her second double-double of the day with a team-high 27 assists in addition to 13 digs while also leading the squad with two service aces.
- Haley Hop again anchored the defense with 15 digs, while Isabelle Barnes registered a team-high four total blocks.
- Seven different Chargers had five digs or more.
