UAH Downs Shorter 3-1 to Open 2017 GSC Slate

HUNTSVILLE | The University of Alabama in Huntsville volleyball team started the 2017 Gulf South Conference slate with a splash as it downed Shorter 3-1 (25-23, 21-25, 25-22, 25-18) on Tuesday evening at Kelly Court at Spragins Hall. UAH improves to 10-4 (1-0 GSC), while SU dips to 6-4 (0-1 GSC).
 
Turning Point
- After Shorter tied the contest 1-1 with a 25-21 win in the second, UAH proceeded to win the next set 25-22 before clinching the four-set victory on a dominant 25-18 win in the fourth frame.
 
Inside the Box Score
- Four Chargers reached double-digit kills in the win, paced by Lorah Yonce with a team-high 13 successful swats followed by Anna LeDuc with 12.
- Both Isabelle Barnes and Anna Claire Johnson posted 10 kills on Tuesday, with Barnes finishing the match with a game-high .455 hitting percentage.
- Haley Hop anchored the defense with 26 digs, while Kirsten Giles and LeDuc joined the junior with double-digit scoops with 15 and 10, respectively.
- Three Chargers notched a double-double in the contest, including Johnson (10 kills, 10 digs), Giles (37 assists, 15 digs) and LeDuc (12 kills, 10 digs).
- Three separate Chargers had three total blocks in the game to lead the defense.

- Hop has 25-plus digs in back-to-back matches, and has totaled 20 digs or more on five occasions.
- Giles' 37 assists and 15 digs are both season-highs for the junior.
