LAST WEEK: The Chargers open the week with an 11-5 overall record and a 2-1 mark within Gulf South Conference play, after beginning the league slate with a 3-1 win over Shorter on Tuesday and a 3-0 victory over Valdosta State on Friday before falling to West Florida 3-0 on Saturday.
 
UPCOMING SLATE: UAH hits the road after spending the past three matches at home beginning with a trip to Montevallo (5-5, 1-2 GSC) on Tuesday for a 6 p.m. contest prior to heading west to take on rival North Alabama (12-3, 2-1 GSC) at 7 p.m. on Friday. The Chargers begin a bevy of road contests with this week's matches as the squad will be away from Kelly Court at Spragins Hall in 10 of its next 11 matches.
 
LEAGUE LEADER: Junior Haley Hop has continued to be a defensive force for the Chargers in 2017 as the Madison, Alabama, native maintains her lead in the conference with 5.49 digs per set while rating second overall with 269 total digs. Hop enjoyed a strong initial week of conference play with 56 digs in three matches this past week including a conference play single-game high of 26 digs against Shorter on Tuesday.
 
LIMITING THE ATTACK: The Chargers enter the week rated third in the conference in opponent hitting percentage at .137 while also seeing the GSC's highest amount of total attacks. Along with the success of Hop's league-leading 5.49 digs per set, UAH paces the conference with 107 total blocks led by Caroline Sanford with an average of 1.00 blocks per set which rates second in the league.
 
FALCONS PROFILE: Montevallo – one of the GSC's newest members for 2017 – begin the week with a 5-5 overall record and a 1-2 mark in league play after most recently topping Auburn Montgomery 3-0 on Friday. The Falcons offense is led by a trio of players with 80-plus kills in Brie Blume (89 kills), Kristy Bohan (86 kills) and Amanda Nugent (83 kills), while Michaela Henderson has a team-best 134 digs.
 
LIONS PROFILE: North Alabama – who is set to depart the conference for NCAA Division I next season – starts out this week's slate with a 12-3 overall record and 2-1 within the GSC following a loss to West Florida on Friday before topping Valdosta State on Saturday in Florence, Alabama. UNA's offense is paced by Lexie Bradley (218 kills) and Jessica Austin (203 kills), while Ashtyn Kopovich leads the defense with 282 digs and a 5.13 digs per set average.
 
SERIES HISTORIES: The Chargers are 20-17 all-time against Montevallo and 17-54 against North Alabama. UAH last matched up with Montevallo on Oct. 6, 2012 when the Falcons topped the Chargers 3-1 in Montevallo, Alabama, while North Alabama notched wins in both matchups last season against UAH.
