Dramatic UAH Buzzer-Beater Forces OT Before No. 14 VSU Prevails 97-93

HUNTSVILLE | A dramatic 3-pointer at the buzzer from Seth Swalve forced overtime on Thursday night, but No. 14 Valdosta State survived The University of Alabama in Huntsville's upset bid by a 97-93 score at Kelly Court at Spragins Hall. UAH slips 12-8 (5-7 Gulf South Conference) with the setback, while VSU improves to 18-2 (11-1 GSC).

Turning Point
-VSU went 4-for-4 from beyond the arc in the overtime period, outscoring UAH 22-18 in the extra five minutes to secure the victory.

Inside the Box Score

-Tanner Finley rounded out UAH's double-digit contingent as he scored 13.
-Elliott led the Chargers on the glass with eight boards, while Kip Owens dished out a team-best seven assists in the game.
-KJ James paced the Blazers with 28 points including 10 in the overtime period.
-For the game, UAH connected on 46.2 percent of its attempts compared to a shooting mark of 48.0 percent for the guests, and the Blazers also outrebounded the Chargers by a 47-39 clip.
-Of those 47 rebounds for VSU, 16 were on the offensive end as the visitors built up a key 22-11 margin in second chance points.

Inside the Flow
-UAH jumped out to a quick 7-0 lead and would eventually lead by as many as 11 points by building up a 24-13 advantage just under 11 minutes into the game, but Valdosta State then went on an 11-0 run over nearly four minutes to tie the contest at 24-24 with 5:09 left in the half.
-The Chargers then outscored VSU 15-9 over the remainder of the opening half to go into the locker room up 39-33 at the break.
-After UAH pushed the lead out to nine just out of the half, the Blazers would score 15 of the next 18 points to take their first lead of the night, eventually going up 50-47 with 14:36 remaining in the second, but the hosts responded with a 14-6 spurt of their own to go back in front 61-56 with 10:47 on the clock.
-VSU then went on another sustained run, scoring 12 straight to push out to a 68-61 lead with 7:07 remaining in regulation, but the Chargers would outscore the guests 14-7 in the rest of regulation with Swalve's 3-pointer from the top of the key at the buzzer tying the contest at 75-75 to force overtime.
-The Blazers then had their first four buckets of overtime all come from beyond the arc on their way to building up an 89-81 advantage at the 1:24 mark of the period, and the lead would grow to as many as nine before a furious comeback effort pulled UAH to within three before VSU sealed the contest at 97-93.

Noteworthy

-The 16 points for Orf represent a season-best for the true freshman as do the three steals he recorded in the game, and the St. Charles, Missouri, native also logged a season-high with the seven made field goals.
-Swalve has now reached double figures in nine games on the year.
-This marks the fourth time that Owens has handed out at least seven assists this season.

Next Time Out
-UAH will face its second consecutive nationally-ranked opponent on Saturday when No. 15 West Florida visits. Tip-off on the UAH campus is slated for 4 p.m.
