Hop Eclipses 2000 Career Digs in Senior Day Matchup vs. Montevallo Saturday

HUNTSVILLE | The University of Alabama in Huntsville volleyball team wrapped up the 2018 regular season schedule on Saturday afternoon at Kelly Court at Spragins Hall with a 3-1 loss (28-26, 23-25, 16-25, 20-25) to visiting Montevallo. UAH dips to 22-10 (10-5 GSC), while UM rises to 21-8 (12-4 GSC).
 
Turning Point
- After UAH pulled ahead early with a 28-26 win in the opening stanza, Montevallo won the following three sets by scores of 25-23, 25-16 and 25-20 to notch the 3-1 win over the Chargers.
 
Inside the Box Score
- Kendall Scharbert led the Chargers offense overall with a team-high 11 kills on a .320 hitting percentage to go along with four total blocks on the defensive end.
- Caroline Sanford finished second to Scharbert with 10 kills on a team-best .333 hitting percentage, while also posting a team-high nine total blocks.
- Seniors Anna LeDuc and Lorah Yonce rated tied for third on the squad with eight kills apiece.
- Haley Hop anchored the defense with a team-best 23 digs, headlining a total of five Chargers with eight digs or more.
- Yonce ranked second on the roster with nine digs, followed by Abby Brooks, Sabrina Duncan and Kennedy Sellers with eight digs apiece.
- Duncan posted a team-high 36 assists in the contest.
 
Noteworthy
- Hop eclipsed 2000 digs in her career in the match, making her the seventh GSC player in history to reach the milestone.
- Scharbert's 11 kills are a season-high for the freshman.
 
Next Time Out
- UAH looks ahead to the opening round of the GSC tournament as the sixth seed next Friday with the matchup and game time yet to be determined. The 2018 GSC Volleyball Championships will be held in Pensacola, Florida, on the campus of host West Florida from Nov. 8-11.
