Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

See-Saw Battle Ends with 80-78 UAH Victory Over AUM

MONTGOMERY, Ala. | The University of Alabama in Huntsville men's basketball team held on for a thrilling 80-78 road win on Saturday at Auburn Montgomery to pick up the team's first conference win of the year. UAH improves to 5-2 (1-1 Gulf South Conference), while AUM slips to 4-4 (0-2 GSC).

Turning Point
-A sequence that saw Sam Orf hit a 3-pointer, steal it away on the ensuing AUM possession, and then jam it home broke a tie and gave UAH 79-74 advantage, providing the team with the cushion it would need to secure the victory.

Inside the Box Score
-Orf went 8-for-12 including three 3-pointers in the game to score a team-best 20 points, leading a group of four Chargers that would score in double figures in the contest.
-Fellow sophomore Seth Swalve scored 16 while handing out five assists, and junior Dalton Barkley also collected five assists to go along with a team-high seven rebounds and 14 points.
-Tanner Finley scored 10 to round out the double-figure scorers.
-The Chargers shot 52.5 percent for the game and were 14-for-30 from beyond the arc, while the Warhawks shot 48.3 percent including a 14-for-31 showing from long range.
-UAH outrebounded the hosts, grabbing 35 boards compared to 30 for Auburn Montgomery.

Inside the Flow
-In a back-and-forth game that featured 18 lead changes, it was AUM who had the game's first significant lead at 13-8 at the 16:21 mark of the opening half, but a Finley layup with 3:37 left in the half would push the Chargers ahead 37-30.
-The hosts quickly knotted the contest at 37-37 just over a minute later, but Barkley would hit one of three 3-pointers he made in the game at the end of the half to send UAH into the locker room up 40-39.
-The second half was more of the same with each team having answers for strong pushes by the other, including a 7-0 spurt for the Chargers that turned a 50-44 deficit into a 51-50 lead over a span of just over two minutes with 14:32 remaining in the game.
-After more back-and-forth play, UAH would take a 74-69 lead with 5:41 left in the contest, and though the Warhawks tied it at 74-74 with just over four minutes left, Orf's own 5-0 run lifted the Chargers in front for good at 79-74 with 3:27 left.
-AUM would pull within one at 79-78 with 38 seconds on the clock, but a key Swalve free throw gave UAH a two-point cushion at 80-78, and neither of AUM's 3-point tries on the final possession would go to give UAH the win.

-Orf is now averaging 16.1 points per game on the year, and the St. Charles, Missouri, native has scored at least 20 points in three games for UAH on the season.
