Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

UAH Cruises to Road Victory at Auburn Montgomery on Saturday

MONTGOMERY, Ala. | The University of Alabama in Huntsville women's basketball team made it a perfect opening week in conference play, blowing past host Auburn Montgomery 64-49 on Saturday. The Chargers improve to 3-3 (2-0 Gulf South Conference), while AUM slips to 0-7 (0-2 GSC).

Turning Point
-The Chargers started off the contest in fine fashion, outscoring the hosts 22-10 in the first quarter, and the lead for UAH would not drop into single figures the rest of the way.

Inside the Box Score
-Baylee Johnson and Morgan Tipton led what was a balanced offensive attack for the Chargers on the day as both seniors scored 13 in the contest.
-Eight other Chargers scored in the contest including freshman Holly Harris who had nine and Aryn Sanders and Katie Speegle who both had eight.
-Tipton led the Chargers on the glass with five boards, while Emiline Payne handed out a team-high four assists.
-The Chargers shot 42.4 percent – including a 60.7 percent mark in the first two quarters – for the contest while limiting AUM to connect on just 33.9 percent of its attempts.
-UAH also won the battle on the glass, collecting 40 rebounds to AUM's 36.
-The Chargers committed just 10 turnovers while forcing AUM to give it away 17 times, leading to an 18-8 advantage in points off turnovers for UAH.
-The visitors also enjoyed a 12-2 difference in second-chance points.

Inside the Flow
-The game was close at 5-4 in favor of the Chargers just under three minutes into the game, but a 9-0 run for UAH gave the Chargers a 10-point lead by the 4:43 mark of the opening quarter, resulting in UAH leading 22-10 going into the second.
-The Chargers would lead by as many as 18 in the second quarter when a Sanders triple fell with 1:43 left in the period, and UAH would go into the locker room leading 41-24.
-UAH's lead would continue to expand in the third quarter as the team would go up by 23 holding a 54-31 lead heading into the fourth quarter, and the guests would grab its largest lead of the day at 60-35 with 6:23 remaining in the game.
-That advantage would be more than sufficient for the Chargers, even as AUM outscored UAH – who was able to give minutes to all 15 of its players – 14-4 the rest of the way to create the 64-49 final.

Noteworthy
-UAH now has six players who are averaging at least 7.0 points per game including three in double figures led by Sanders who is averaging 16.3 per game.
-Johnson has reached double digits in scoring in consecutive games for the first time this season.
-The 10 turnovers for the Chargers represent a season-low and are the fewest committed by the team since turning it over 10 times against Christian Brothers on Jan. 6 of last season.

Next Time Out
-The Chargers will be off this week for finals and will return to action on Monday, Dec. 10, at Spring Hill. Tip-off in Mobile is slated for 5:30 p.m.
