HUNTSVILLE | The University of Alabama in Huntsville men's basketball team closed out the 2017-18 season on Thursday night, avenging an earlier loss by winning 79-66 over Montevallo. The Chargers close the year at 16-12 (9-11 Gulf South Conference), while UM falls to 15-14 (10-10 GSC).

Turning Point
-An 18-6 run over an 8:22 span in the middle portion of the opening half turned a two-point deficit into a 10-point lead at 30-20 with 5:29 left until half, and the Chargers would never trail again in running away with the victory.

Inside the Box Score
-In their final game at Kelly Court at Spragins Hall, UAH's three seniors each turned in strong performances led by
Justin Ward who knocked down six 3-pointers on his way to scoring 25 points.
-
Chayse Elliott scored 14 for the Chargers while also grabbing seven rebounds and dishing out five assists, while
Kip Owens scored 11, recorded six assists, five rebounds, three steals and a block.
-Also scoring in double figures for UAH was
Tanner Finley who logged a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds, while
Seth Swalve scored 10 and assisted on a team-best eight buckets.
-As a whole, UAH recorded 21 assists on 27 made shots.
-The Chargers outshot the guests by a 47.4 percent to 46.3 percent clip, and UAH held a wide 40.5 percent to 23.8 percent margin from beyond the arc thanks to 15 made 3s.
-UAH also won the rebounding battle by a 32-30 margin.

Inside the Flow
-The Falcons jumped out to a quick 7-2 lead, and though UAH would briefly take the lead back, UM led 14-12 at the 13:51 mark of the opening period.
-UAH then scored eight straight as part of the larger, aforementioned 18-6 run to go up 30-20, and by the halftime break the lead would balloon to 40-27.
-A 13-5 run over 3:35 later in the second half pushed the home team's advantage out to its largest point of the night at 66-44, and though UM would have runs of 5-0 and 6-0 in the final minutes, the Falcons could never narrow the gap back down to single digits the rest of the way.

Noteworthy
-With a 4-for-4 night at the free throw line, Owens finishes the season with the best single-season mark at the charity stripe as he connected on 92.9 percent of his tries to best the previous high of 91.2 percent set by Mike Morris in the 1990-91 season.
-Ward ends the year as the team's leading scorer with 18.4 points per game, and during his senior season he amassed 12 games in which he scored 20 or more points.
-Elliott logged his 19th game of the season in which he scored in double figures, and the senior finishes his final campaign in the Blue and White by averaging 14.6 points per outing to rank second on the team.
-The double-double for Finley marks the first in the junior's career.
