HUNTSVILLE | The University of Alabama in Huntsville men's tennis team earned its first victory of 2018 on Sunday, easily winning 8-1 over Martin Methodist in a match that was due to weather played indoors at Athletic Club Alabama. The Chargers move to 1-2 on the year, while MMC starts the year at 0-1.

UAH set the tone for the match in doubles action as the Chargers swept all three points.

The third pairing of Noah Pring and James Caddies gave UAH its first point with an 8-1 win, followed by Timo Christen and Tim Nutz who won 8-4 at the second spot.

Dylan Hall and Elliot Hopson then put UAH up 3-0 by winning 8-6 from the top position.

In singles play, the Chargers moved to the precipice of victory when Caddies picked up a 6-1, 6-0 victory on the fifth court, and Nutz then sealed the match for the hosts with a 6-2, 6-3 victory at the third position.

Hall was a 6-4, 6-2 winner at the top spot to make it 6-0 in favor of UAH, and the Blue and White picked up two additional points when Kieran Roskell-Thomas won 6-3, 6-1 from the sixth position and Hopson won 6-4, 6-1 at the fourth.

UAH will return to action on Friday when the squad ventures to Memphis for a weekend in which they will play four matches in three days. The first opponent of that set will be Arkansas Fort Smith at 3 p.m. on Friday.
