UAH Drops Series Finale to Montevallo on Sunday

HUNTSVILLE | The University of Alabama in Huntsville softball team fell on Sunday, dropping an 11-8 decision to visiting Montevallo in the series finale between the two teams. UAH slips to 13-6 (5-4 Gulf South Conference) with the setback, while the Falcons improve to 14-5 (5-4 GSC).
 
Game Changer
-Montevallo scored six times in the top of the fifth to turn an 8-3 deficit into a 9-8 lead that the guests would not relinquish the rest of the way.
 
Inside the Box Score
-Montevallo outhit the hosts by an 11-8 margin in the contest.
-Four of UAH's hits came from Kiara Akles and Jada Hayes who both had a pair in the game, and both Akles and Hayes had a home run in the contest to aid them in leading the Chargers with three RBI each.
-Taylor Wascavage, Shelby Booker, and Akles each scored twice in the contest.
-The Chargers used all three of their pitchers in the game, and it was Layton Murphy who took the loss in the circle.
 
Key Plays
-The Falcons got on the board first by plating a pair of runs in the top of the first, but the lead would be short-lived as Akles hit a monster shot over the scoreboard in left with Wascavage on board in the bottom frame to level the contest at 2-2.
-The score remained level until the the third when the Chargers scored four times with Akles, Amber Hammonds, and Hayes all driving in runs in the frame to put UAH on top 6-2.
-The Falcons scored in the top half of the fourth to make it 6-3, but Hayes hit a two-run jack in the home half to put the Chargers up 8-3.
-Montevallo then scored six in the fifth and another two in the seventh to create the 11-8 final.
 
Noteworthy
-The home run for Akles – her third of the series – pads her team lead at six, while the long fly for Hayes represents her first of the season.
-Akles has totaled 21 RBI on the season which leads the team and is tied for fourth in the conference.
 
Next Time Out
-UAH will be back in action on Wednesday at Charger Park when the team steps out of conference play to welcome Tuskegee. That doubleheader is slated for a 2 p.m. start.
