HUNTSVILLE | The University of Alabama in Huntsville softball team wrapped up its five-game homestand in fine fashion, throttling visiting Tuskegee 18-0 and 17-0 in a doubleheader sweep. The Chargers improve to 15-6 on the season, while the Golden Tigers slip to 2-18

­-The Chargers return to the road this weekend, traveling to the Peach State to take on conference rival Valdosta State in a three-game slate that starts with a 2 p.m. CST doubleheader on Saturday.

Game Changer
-UAH scored 10 times in the opening inning, providing more than enough run support for freshman pitcher Kiara Akles who would limit the Golden Tigers to just one hit in the abbreviated five-inning affair.

-Nine players recorded a hit for the Chargers who racked up 15 to Tuskegee's one in the game, and five different UAH batters had a multi-hit game led by Brooke Miller who went 3-for-3 with two RBI and a run.
-Each of Reagan Malone, Amber Hammonds, Ashley Cornell, and Alaina Hampton had a pair of hits in the game including two doubles off the bat of Hampton which allowed her to drive in a team-high four runs in the contest.
-Shelby Booker, Haley Cope, Malone, and Miller each logged a pair of RBI in the game.
-The team had six doubles with Mary Kate Teague, Jada Hayes, Cornell, and Akles responsible for the other four in addition to the two from Hampton.
-Akles struck out nine and walked none while limiting the visitors to just the one hit as she faced just one over the minimum.

-UAH scored in each of its four trips to the plate including the 10-spot that came in the bottom of the first when the Chargers sent 14 to the dish.
-The Chargers then added three in the second, four in the third, and another in the fourth to produce the 18-0 final.
 
Noteworthy
-The nine strikeouts is a season-best for Akles, and it matches the single-game high for a Charger this year as Layton Murphy struck out nine against Georgia Southwestern on Feb. 9.
-The RBI for Cope and Teague represent the first of their collegiate careers.

-The second contest started much like the first as UAH scored eight times in the first to take complete control of the game.

­-The Chargers piled up 13 hits to Tuskegee's three in the nightcap, and each of Hayes, Hammonds, Miller, and Hampton had a pair in the game.
-UAH registered seven hits for extra bases as Teague, Hayes, and Hammonds all had a homer, while Hammonds, Miller, Hampton, and Cornell logged a double in the contest also.
-Miller drove in a team-high three runs, while six other Chargers knocked in a pair each: Taylor Wascavage, Hayes, Hammonds, Hampton, Malone, and Teague.
-Layton Murphy earned the win in the circle, going three innings while allowing just two hits and walking none, and Hayes pitched the final two frames in relief, surrendering just one hit.
