INDIANAPOLIS | The third season for The University of Alabama in Huntsville men's lacrosse team came to a close Friday night as the third-seeded Chargers fell 16-6 to No. 2 seed Indianapolis in the semifinals of the 2018 Great Lakes Valley Conference Men's Lacrosse Tournament Championship. UAH ends the campaign at 8-7, while UIndy advances to the championship game at 8-5.
Â
UAH's third year saw the team make significant strides once more, earning the program's first winning record while also posting a program-best eight wins en route to earning a conference tournament berth in its first season of conference affiliation with the GLVC.
Â
Those marked improvements were also reflected on Friday as 10 Chargers were honored on the All-GLVC teams with
Luke LeVette and
Colton Nall earning second team status while eight other UAH players were named honorable mention selections.
Â
Both LeVette and Nall factored into the scoring on Friday night as LeVette scored a pair with Nall adding one goal, and the other Blue and White scores came from
Emory Weaver – who had two – and
Connor Evers.
Â
Nall also finished the night with a team-high three ground balls.
Â
Weaver opened the scoring not even two minutes into the contest as he scored a man-up goal at the 13:21 mark of the opening quarter, but Indianapolis would score five unanswered before Evers tallied with 30 seconds left in the quarter to make it a 5-2 game.
Â
UIndy then held the Chargers off the scoreboard in the second quarter en route to building up a 12-2 lead at the break, and the Greyhounds would score twice more before LeVette scored with 7:06 left in the third and against at the 12:40 mark of the fourth to pull the Chargers within 10 at 14-4.
Â
Weaver would make it three straight for UAH with a score with 7:04 on the clock, but a pair of Indianapolis goals sandwiched around Nall's marker would produce the 16-6 final.
Â
LeVette ends his sophomore campaign tied with
Kevin Coppinger for the team lead in points with 38 as Coppinger picked up an assist in the contest on Friday, and LeVette finishes the season with 38 goals to now own 69 for his career.
Â
Ending his freshman season second on the team in goals is Weaver who scored his 24th and 25th of the season, while Nall tallied his eighth of the season and also ends the year ranked second on the team with 59 ground balls.
Â
Evers recorded his first collegiate goal in the game.
