GREENWOOD, S.C. | The University of Alabama in Huntsville men's soccer team fought valiantly in its season opener, but No. 12 Lander scored in the closing seconds of regulation to secure a 3-2 win on Friday night. The Chargers start the season at 0-1, while the Bearcats open the year at 1-0.

Turning Points
-The game was a scoreless affair through the first 37 minutes, but Kyle Ferguson got the ball just over the goal line in the 38th minute to put the hosts up 1-0.
-The Chargers came out of the break strong and were quickly rewarded for their efforts as
Khalil Bell tallied in the 51st to level the game at 1-1.
-UAH's continued pressure resulted in the team earning a PK in the 68th minute, and transfer
Rafa Moreno buried his try from the spot to put the Chargers ahead.
-Lander then proceeded to level the contest at 2-2 in the 79th when Michael Leach scored, and after earning a corner in the 90th minute, Jordan Skelton tallied with just 10 seconds remaining to give the Bearcats the victory.

-On the night, Lander built up a 22-7 advantage in shots including a 7-2 edge in shots on goal.
-Moreno paced the Chargers with a team-high three shots including the goal, while
Guy Clennett fired off a pair of attempts.

Myles Fullen kept UAH in the game, fighting off a strong Lander attack in the opening 45 minutes to make all four of his saves in the first half.

-The score for Bell is the junior's ninth of his career as he registered four goals in each of his first two seasons with the Chargers.
-Five Chargers made their UAH debuts with
Vicente Arratia,
Marten Nilop,
Nick Hall, and
Jonathan Olivarres joining the goal-scorer Moreno in making their first appearances in the Blue and White.
-Fullen has now made multiple saves in 10 straight games, a streak that dates back to Oct. 1 of last season when Auburn Montgomery recorded just one shot on goal against the Nolensville, Tennessee, native.
