Chargers Start Conference Play with 4-0 Throttling of Delta State

HUNTSVILLE | The University of Alabama in Huntsville men's soccer team started Gulf South Conference play in fine fashion on Friday night, drubbing Delta State 4-0 in front of another robust Charger Park crowd. The Chargers improve to 3-2-0 (1-0-0 GSC) on the year, while DSU slips to 0-4-0 (0-1-0 GSC).

Turning Points
-The game was scoreless through much of the first half, but Rafa Moreno continued his sensational start to the year when Guy Clennett fed it to him in the 38th minute to put the Chargers on top.
-Despite playing with 10 men after having a player sent off in the 41st minute, UAH would quickly take a firm grasp on the contest when Khalil Bell scored in the 54th and Moreno added his second of the night on a penalty in the 60th.
-Ethan Wilson then wrapped up the scoring when he scored in the 64th to create the 4-0 final.

Inside the Box Score
-The Chargers finished the night with a 13-10 edge in shots including a wide 7-3 margin in attempts that were on frame, and UAH earned six corners to four for Delta State.
-Myles Fullen made three stops in goal for the Chargers in earning the clean sheet.
-Moreno, Bell, and Clennett all had a team-high three shots, and each of Moreno's were on goal to pace the team in that statistical category.
-Bell recorded a pair that were on frame.
-There were a whopping 36 fouls whistled in the game, and the referee went to his book on nine different occasions.

Noteworthy
-Moreno extends his goal-scoring streak to five games, and his six goals lead the GSC.
-The goals for Bell and Wilson give both two on the season.
-The assist for Clennett is his first of the year, and it comes in his first game since the Francis Marion contest on Sept. 2.
-The clean sheet is the first of the year for the Blue and White, and Fullen now has four shutouts to his credit during his three-year tenure in Huntsville.
-The Chargers have scored a GSC-best 13 times, and the team ranks second in goals per game with 2.6.

Next Time Out
-The Chargers will turn their attention to Mississippi College who visits Charger Park on Sunday riding high after upsetting No. 9 West Alabama on Thursday night by a 3-2 score. Kick-off on the UAH campus is slated for 3:30 p.m.
