Brannon's Four Goals Aid UAH in 12-0 Romp Past Oakwood

HUNTSVILLE | The University of Alabama in Huntsville women's soccer team rolled past visiting Oakwood 12-0 on Tuesday night at Charger Park. UAH improves to 1-5-1 with the victory, while the Ambassadors slip to 0-4-0.
 
Turning Points
-Melanie Brannon scored four times – the most by a Charger in a game in nearly 13 years – and Baylie Spring added a pair in the first 14 minutes of the game as the Chargers built up a quick 6-0 lead.
-Gabby Westenberger added three scores, and each of Annie Burd, Berta Thio, and Arieal Alexander added one to help UAH score all 12 goals in the first half.
 
Inside the Box Score
-The Chargers built up a substantial 32-3 advantage in shots including an 18-2 margin in shots on goal, and the home side also enjoyed a 4-0 margin in corners.
-UAH utilized all three goalkeepers in Megan Buford who earned the victory, Izzy Huddleston who recorded a pair of saves, and Makenzie Perez.
-Both Hannah Oglesby and Allison Smith registered a pair of assists in the contest, while each of Alex Barnett, Rachel Collins, and Amanda Elsey all tallied one helper.
-Brannon led the team with six shots of which she placed a team-high five on target.
 
Noteworthy
-The Chargers utilized 27 players in the contest.
-Brannon's four goals mark the highest for a Charger since Ina Wam Bjorklid scored a program-record five times against Brescia on Oct. 22, 2006, and she now has a team-best five goals and 10 points.
-The goal for Thio represents the first in the redshirt junior's career.
-Smith records her first collegiate points with the pair of assists.
-Burd moves her season point total to four, while Elsey now has three points on the year.
 
Next Time Out
-The Chargers will return to conference play on Friday when they travel to Memphis to take on Christian Brothers. Kick-off for the GSC contest is slated for 5 p.m. on the CBU campus.
