Chargers Fall in Series Finale vs. Alaska Fairbanks

HUNTSVILLE | The University of Alabama in Huntsville hockey team fell to Alaska Fairbanks by a final score of 5-2 on Saturday night at the Von Braun Center to wrap up the two-game Western Collegiate Hockey Association Series. UAH slides to 6-21-1 (6-13-1 WCHA), while UAF improves to 8-16-2 (8-11-1 WCHA).
 
Turning Point
- A pair of major penalties called on the Chargers in the second period allowed Alaska Fairbanks to score three times on the power play in the stanza on the way to the 5-2 win on Saturday.
 
Scoring Breakdown
- UAF scored first at the 2:05 mark of the first period as Tyler Cline scored on the power play to give the Nanooks the first lead.
- The Chargers evened the game at 1-1 after Christian Rajic wristed in a shot from the right dot after forcing a turnover at the 15:49 of the first period.
- The Nanooks took control of the matchup in the second period with three unanswered power play goals by Colton Leiter at 5:31, Tristan Thompson at 10:03 and Max Newton at 13:07.
- UAH cut the Alaska Fairbanks lead to 4-2 at 16:43 of the second, when Hans Gorowsky wristed in a feed by Kurt Gosselin in front of the crease. Both Gosselin and Connor Merkley notched assists on the play.
- Alaska Fairbanks went on to bring the game to its final score of 5-2 at 6:47 of the third period on a goal by Chad Staley.
