UAH Earns Road Win with 80-69 Victory at MC

CLINTON, Miss. | The University of Alabama in Huntsville women's basketball team picked up a road win on Saturday, pushing past Mississippi College 80-69. The Chargers improve to 8-9 (6-5 Gulf South Conference), while MC slips to 6-11 (2-9 GSC).

Turning Point
-After Mississippi College took a brief lead at 54-53 less than a minute into the fourth quarter, the Chargers would score six straight en route to outscoring the hosts 27-17 in the period to secure the victory.

Inside the Box Score
-Aryn Sanders went 8-for-11 from the floor on her way to scoring a team-best 22 points, and she logged a double-double with a game-high 10 rebounds.
-Nearly logging a double-double of her own, Baylee Johnson used three 3-pointers and an 8-for-8 showing at the charity stripe to score 21 points while collecting nine rebounds.
-Holly Harris rounded out UAH's double-figure scorers as she scored 13.
-Emiline Payne handed out a team-high five of UAH's 17 assists.
-For the contest, UAH shot 46.7 percent while holding the Lady Choctaws to a shooting mark of 39.4 percent, and rebounds in the game were even at 39-39.
-UAH turned it over just nine times and forced MC to give it away 14 times to hold a wide 21-8 advantage in points off turnovers.

Inside the Flow
-After MC grabbed the game's first lead, the Chargers would eventually go ahead with a Morgan Tipton 3-pointer at the 2:42 mark of the opening quarter giving UAH a seven-point lead, and the guests would go into the second stanza leading 18-12.
-The Lady Choctaws narrowed the gap to just two at 24-22 with 4:39 left in the second, but the Chargers ripped off an 11-2 run over the next three minutes with a Johnson triple putting the Chargers up by 11 at 35-24 before MC scored the final five points of the half to make it 35-29 at the break.
-UAH would regain the double-digit lead early in the third quarter before a 10-0 run for the hosts put them in front for the first time since the early moments of the contest, but a pair of Johnson free throws put the Chargers back ahead 53-52 going into the final period.
-The Chargers then had their highest scoring quarter, tallying the 27 points in the fourth to put the contest away.

Noteworthy
-The double-double for Sanders is her sixth of the season, and this marks the sixth time that the Signal Mountain, Tennessee, native has scored at least 20 points in a game this season.
-Johnson has reached double figures in four straight contests, and the nine rebounds equal her career best which she established last season against Oakland City.
-The nine turnovers represent a season low for the team, and UAH is now 3-0 on the season when turning the ball over 10 or fewer times.

Next Time Out
-The Chargers will turn right back around and host Mississippi College on Thursday in Huntsville. Tip-off at Kelly Court at Spragins Hall is slated for 5:30 p.m.
