Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

UAH Runs Past Visiting Mississippi College at Spragins on Thursday

HUNTSVILLE | The University of Alabama in Huntsville men's basketball team made it two straight over Mississippi College and three straight overall, earning its 15th win of the season with a 79-59 victory at Kelly Court at Spragins Hall on Thursday night. The Chargers move to 15-5 (8-4 Gulf South Conference), while MC falls to 4-13 (1-11 GSC).

Turning Point
-The Chargers built up a 12-2 advantage by the 13:50 mark of the opening half to set the tone for the game in which the team would lead wire to wire.

Inside the Box Score
-Malik Cook-Stroupe led the Chargers in scoring in the contest, going 5-for-7 with three 3-pointers to total 19 points.
-Joining him in double figures was JJ Kaplan who did not miss a shot in the contest, going 5-for-5 from the floor with a pair of triples while also adding a 4-for-4 showing at the charity stripe, and for good measure he matched a team-high with eight rebounds while adding three assists.
-The other Charger in double figures was Sam Orf who had 13 while matching Kaplan with the eight boards.
-Dalton Barkley handed out a team-high eight assists.
-For the game, the Chargers shot 58.7 percent while limited MC to a 46.9 percent shooting mark, and UAH won the rebounding battle by a 30-18 clip.
-The Chargers had 20 assists on 27 made buckets.

Inside the Flow
-After quickly pushing the lead into double figures, the hosts would see MC narrow the gap to just six before expanding the lead to as many as 20 in the opening half that saw the Chargers take a 41-26 lead into the break.
-The Choctaws pulled back to within 12 at 50-38 with 16 minutes left in the contest, but UAH would rip off seven straight points to go back up by 19 by the 12:34 mark.
-The 7-0 run for the Chargers included perhaps the most electrifying play of the year as Cook-Stroupe stole the ball just outside of the paint on the other end, passed it ahead to Kerney Lane who terrifically batted the ball with one hand to a trailing Kaplan who then threw down an outrageous dunk that sent The Stable into a wild frenzy.
-UAH eventually pushed the lead out to 27 points in cruising to the comfortable victory.

Noteworthy
-Cook-Stroupe's 19 points represent a season-high for the redshirt junior.
-Barkley matches his season-high with the eight assists.
-Kaplan has reached double figures in three straight games.
-The Chargers have made nine 3s in three straight games and are undefeated in those contests.
