UAH Falls 6-5 in Overtime to Ferris State Friday

HUNTSVILLE | The University of Alabama in Huntsville hockey team dropped the Western Collegiate Hockey Association series opener against Ferris State in overtime on Friday night at the Von Braun Center by a final score of 6-5. UAH slips to 3-18-0 (3-10-0 WCHA), while FSU rises to 6-14-1 (3-9-1 WCHA).
 
Turning Point
 - After back-to-back UAH goals had the Chargers ahead 5-4 in the third period, FSU's Jake Transit scored at 11:08 of the third to force overtime where Dominic Lutz sent in the game-winning goal 56 seconds into the overtime period for the 6-5 win over UAH.
 
Scoring Breakdown
- The first period was scoreless for the majority until Jacob Hetz gave the Bulldogs with first lead at the 14:45 mark.
- UAH tied the matchup at 1-1 when Hans Gorowsky scored unassisted at the 4:43 mark of the second period for his second goal of the season.
- Ferris State regained the lead at 7:42 of the second as Nate Kallen scored for the Bulldogs.
- The Chargers again knotted the game at 10:38 on a goal by Bauer Neudecker, but the Bulldogs quickly turned the tables for a 3-2 lead with a tally by Coale Norris 16 seconds later.
- Adam Wilcox tied the contest at 3-3 with a successful redirect off a Kurt Gosselin shot from the point at 14:32 of the second, but FSU retook the lead in the final minute when Lutz scored at 19:01.
- The Chargers registered back-to-back goals in the third period by Brandon Salerno at 5:39 and Austin Beaulieu at 6:15 to own a 5-4 lead.
- Ferris State knotted the contest at 5-5 on Transit's goal at 11:08 of the third, before Lutz registered the game-winning goal 56 seconds into the overtime period to notch the 6-5 win.
 
Inside the Box Score
- The Chargers had 30 shots on goal in the contest, led by Gosselin and Jesper Öhrvall with five shots saved each.
- Austin Beaulieu rated second on the roster with four shots on goal.
- A total of eleven Chargers had at least on point in the loss, paced by Gorowsky (1g-1a) and Öhrvall (0g-2a).
