Chargers Complete Comeback Win over Ferris State in Overtime

HUNTSVILLE | The University of Alabama in Huntsville hockey team completed a comeback victory over Ferris State in overtime by a final score of 4-3 to win the finale of the two-game Western Collegiate Hockey Association series. UAH improves to 4-18-0 (4-10-0 WCHA), while FSU dips to 6-15-1 (3-10-1 WCHA).
 
Turning Point
- The Chargers tied the game at 3-3 with 11 seconds remaining in the third period on a tally by Brandon Salerno to force overtime, where UAH went on to score the game-winner at the 3:13 mark on a deflection in front of the goal by junior Austin Beaulieu which gave UAH the 4-3 victory.
 
Scoring Breakdown
- The majority of the first period was quiet offensively until Zech Cooper gave the Bulldogs the first lead at the 17:17 mark, but UAH tied it back up at 18:23 when a one-timer by Kurt Gosselin found the back of the net on the power play.
- Ferris State notched a pair of second-period goals at 5:02 by Trevor Recktenwald and Cooper at 11:17 to lead 3-1 entering second intermission.
- The Chargers cut into the Bulldogs lead at 16:35 of the third period, as Beaulieu wristed in a shot from the slot thanks to assists by Hans Gorowsky and Christian Rajic.
- With an extra skater on and the UAH net empty, Salerno snuck in the game-tying goal at 19:49 of the frame to force overtime.
- Beaulieu gave the Chargers the 4-3 victory in overtime with a power-play tally at 3:13, as the junior deflected a shot by Cam Knight from the point. Both Knight and Bauer Neudecker assisted on the game-winning goal.
 
Inside the Box Score
- The Chargers totaled 34 shots on goal in the victory, led by Beaulieu with seven shots on goal.
- Beaulieu led the offense with three points on two goals and one assist, while both Knight and Neudecker rated second on the roster with two points on two assists each.
- Salerno finished second on the squad with four shots on goal, with Connor James, Connor Merkley and Gosselin supplying three shots saved apiece.
- UAH went 27-for-59 from the face-off circle.

- This was UAH's first home victory this season.
- Beaulieu recorded his first career three-point performance, and he now has four multi-point games in his career.
- Christian Rajic (1g-7a) moves into a two-way tie for first on the roster with Jesper Öhrvall (0g-8a) with eight points after tallying an assist in the matchup.
- Neudecker collected his first multi-point game of his career, giving the freshman three goals and three assists in his past seven appearances.
- Knight has four, two-assist performances in his career.
- The Chargers nine goals scored during the series are the most in a weekend for UAH this season.
- UAH has killed off 11 consecutive penalties dating back to Michigan Tech on Dec. 15.
