UAH Wraps Up Play at the GSC/SSC Volleyball Crossover

HOOVER, Ala. | The University of Alabama in Huntsville volleyball team wrapped up play at the 2019 GSC/SSC Volleyball Crossover on Saturday, dropping a 3-1 decision to Palm Beach Atlantic before falling 3-0 to Tampa. UAH slips to 14-7 with the pair of setbacks.

-The Chargers will be back in action on Tuesday when they continue non-conference action against Martin Methodist. That match is slated for a 6 p.m. start.

Turning Point
-Despite trailing by six at 19-12 in the fourth set, the Chargers would reel off an 8-2 run to pull within one at 21-20, but the Sailfish outscored UAH 4-1 to close out the set and thus the match.
 
Inside the Box Score
-Offensively the Chargers were led by Kendall Scharbert who had 10 successful attacks, and for good measure she also led UAH at the net, logging a team-best seven blocks.
-Isabelle Barnes and Abby Brooks both registered nine kills in the match.
-Logging another double-double, Sabrina Duncan handed out 31 assists while also collecting 13 digs.
-Shayla Libby led the Chargers in digs with 21.
-Both teams were strong defensively as UAH was limited to a .047 hitting percentage while holding PBA to a swinging mark of .092, and the Sailfish established a slight 71-67 edge in digs.
-The Chargers outblocked Palm Beach Atlatnic by an 11-9 clip.
 
Noteworthy
-The seven blocks represent a career-best for Scharbert whose previous high had been five which the sophomore has done twice.
-This is Duncan's ninth double-double of the year.
-This is the fourth time this season UAH has held an opponent under a .100 hitting percentage and the third time in as many games.

Turning Point
-Tampa scored the first seven points of the first set en route to a 25-15 win in the frame, and though the second set would be a tighter 25-21 affair, the Spartans picked up a 25-17 win in the third to earn the win.
 
Inside the Box Score
-Kendall Scharbert had nine kills and just two errors on 14 swings to lead the Chargers offensively, registering a .500 hitting percentage.
-Sabrina Duncan and Katie Sharp both were in double figures in assists, logging 15 and 13, respectively.
-Scooping a team-best 11 digs was Shayla Libby.
-Tampa as a team hit at a .299 clip, while the 
Chargers hit .160 for the match.
-The Spartans collected 45 digs compared to 40 for UAH, and there were just eight blocks in the game combined between the two teams with six belonging to UT and two to the Blue and White.
 
Noteworthy
-The .500 hitting mark for Scharbert is her highest of the season in games in which she has more than 10 attacks.
-Libby has now logged 323 digs on the season.
