UAH Earns 3-2 Triumph Over West Alabama Saturday

HUNTSVILLE | The University of Alabama in Huntsville volleyball team extended its conference winning streak to eight matches, defeating visiting West Alabama 3-2 in a thriller in front of a large Kelly Court at Spragins Hall crowd on Saturday afternoon. UAH improves to 17-7 (8-1 Gulf South Conference) with the victory, while UWA falls to 7-17 (1-7 GSC).
 
Turning Points
-The Chargers opened the match in dominating fashion, swinging at well over a .500 clip in the first two sets to win 25-10 and 25-16 to take a commanding 2-0 lead.
-West Alabama then reeled off consecutive set victories of its own, winning 25-21 in the third and 25-20 in the fourth to force the deciding fifth set.
-The Tigers opened up a 7-4 lead to start the fifth, but a 5-0 run turned the deficit into an advantage for the Chargers, propelling UAH to a 15-13 win in the frame to seal the match.
 
Inside the Box Score
-Three Chargers finished in double figures in kills on the afternoon with Molly Presnell leading the way with 15, while Isabelle Barnes had 12 and Kendall Scharbert recorded 11.
-Sabrina Duncan recorded a double-double in the contest, handing out 28 assists while also registering 14 digs.
-The 14 digs represented a team-high which was matched by Shayla Libby.
-Katie Sharp also finished in double figures in assists with 20.
-Six different players recorded a block in the contest, led by Barnes who had three.
-For the game, UAH hit at a .250 clip while limiting the Tigers to a swinging mark of .190.
-UAH outdug the guests by a 66-61 clip, and the Chargers had six blocks compared to four for UWA.
 
Noteworthy
-This is the ninth time that Presnell has recorded double figures in kills, and her showing is tied for her highest total in a conference game.
-The 57 assists handed out by the Chargers in the game is tied for the second-best performance this season.
-Libby now has 385 digs on the year and is averaging 4.14 digs per set.
-UAH had 11 aces in the game which is tied for the most in a game this season.
 
Next Time Out
-The Chargers will be back in action on Tuesday when they step back out of conference play to welcome Trevecca Nazarene to Huntsville. First serve is set for 6 p.m.
