Wright Captures GSC Defender of the Week Honor

10/29/2019 11:48:00 AM

HUNTSVILLE | The Gulf South Conference announced its weekly award winners on Tuesday, and The University of Alabama in Huntsville's Adriana Wright has been selected as the GSC Women's Soccer Defender of the Week.

This is the first weekly honor for Wright, and this is UAH's second weekly honoree this year as Wright joins Brynn Colvin who was the Co-Player of the Week on Sept. 17.

This is also UAH's first Defender of the Week honor since Sept. 13, 2016, when Larae Breaux won the honor.

Wright went 2-0-0 in goal on the weekend, posting 10 saves and a shutout.

In UAH's double overtime win against Union, Wright made saves stops and earned her first collegiate clean sheet, holding the Bulldogs without a goal for nearly 109 minutes.

Coupled with 86 scoreless minutes in UAH's contest against Christian Brothers on Sunday, when Wright finally allowed a score to the visiting Bucs, it was the freshman's first goal allowed in 286 minutes over a span of four contests.

In the CBU game, the Headland, Alabama, native made five stops including a critical save early in the second half with UAH only on top by a goal at the time. Shortly thereafter, the Chargers scored twice on their way to putting the game away.

On the season Wright has earned four wins while recording 73 saves.

Wright and her teammates will be back in action on Friday when the Chargers look to continue their winning ways on the road at Shorter. Kick-off is scheduled for 4 p.m. CT.
