UAH Tops Shorter in Three Sets on Senior Night

HUNTSVILLE | The University of Alabama in Huntsville volleyball team wrapped up the 2019 regular season home slate with a 3-0 win (25-19, 25-21, 25-17) over visiting Shorter on Tuesday evening at Kelly Court at Spragins Hall in a Gulf South Conference matchup. UAH improves to 23-8 (13-2 GSC), while SU dips to 9-20 (2-12 GSC).
 
Turning Point
- After going ahead 2-0 in the first two sets, the Chargers caught fire inside Spragins Hall with a 6-0 run on the way to taking the third set 25-17 for the three-set victory on Tuesday.
 
Inside the Box Score
- The Chargers offense was paced by Abby Brooks and Ali Lowe with nine kills apiece, with Lowe notching a match-best .643 hitting percentage.
- Brooks nearly achieved a double-double as she also tied for the team lead in digs with 13.
- Kendall Scharbert had a strong attacking night with eight kills on a .500 hitting percentage.
- Jordan Grammer registered seven kills on a .455 hitting percentage in addition to ranking second on the squad with four total blocks.
- Isabelle Barnes led the Chargers defense with five total blocks while adding five kills on offense.
- Sabrina Duncan had a team-high 19 assists and seven digs, with Katie Sharp following closely in both categories with 18 helpers and six scoops.
- Duncan and Shayla Libby each had a team-high two service aces.
- Libby tied with Brooks with 13 digs on the night.
- UAH hit .311 as a team in the contest, while limiting Shorter to a .182 team hitting percentage.
 
Noteworthy
- UAH has won 23 games in each of the last three seasons for the first time since the program won over 28 games from 1997-99.
- Lowe's .643 hitting percentage was a season-high for the senior.
- The Chargers owned a 17-1 record at home during the regular season.
