UAH Draws with West Alabama on Senior Night

HUNTSVILLE | Closing out the regular season, The University of Alabama in Huntsville men's soccer team played to a 2-2 draw with visiting rival West Alabama on Friday night at Charger Park. The Chargers head into the postseason at 6-8-3 (4-4-3 Gulf South Conference), while UWA is now 4-8-4 (2-5-4 GSC).
 
Turning Points
-The Chargers needed just 88 seconds to get on the board as Rafa Moreno headed in a Brayant Toro cross in the second minute of the game to give UAH an early 1-0 lead that would lead through the halftime break.
-Kyle McLeod then leveled the contest in the 52nd minute before Maxime Correia put the Tigers up by a 2-1 score in the 63rd.
-Providing a perfect bookend to his early strike, Moreno would force the overtime periods when he scored off an Andres Rodriguez assist in the 89th to make it 2-2.
-UAH had the best opportunity in the extra time when Steven Gallagher hit the post in the 97th minute, and the Chargers would earn three corners in the second period of overtime but were unable to pot the game-winner.
 
Inside the Box Score
-The Chargers outshot the Tigers by a wide 20-9 margin, and UAH held a 7-5 edge in shots on goal.
-UAH also built up a significant 7-1 margin in corners.
-Gallagher had a team-high four shots, while Moreno paced the team with a pair that were on target.
-Drew Kelly made one stop in goal before having to give way to Simon Voss who recorded a pair of stops in the final 64 minutes of the game.
 
Noteworthy
-Moreno's two goals give him a team-best nine on the season, giving him 23 goals over his two years in the Blue and White and 35 in his three-year collegiate career.
-This is Moreno's second multi-goal game of the year.
-The assists for Toro and Rodriguez mark the first of the year for both.
-UAH is now 3-1-2 in its last six contests against West Alabama after starting the all-time series with an 0-7-1 mark.
-The Chargers honored its five seniors – Garrett Manley, Khalil Bell, Daniel Hearle, Gallagher, and Toro – prior to the contest.
 
Next Time Out
-UAH will find out on Saturday where its GSC tournament opening round game will be. The 2019 GSC Men's Soccer Championships quarterfinals will take place on Tuesday at campus sites with the higher seeds hosting.
