UAH Earns Extra WCHA Point After 2-2 Tie at Ferris State

BIG RAPIDS, Mich. | The University of Alabama in Huntsville hockey team opened up its two-game series at Ferris State on Friday night, skating to a 2-2 tie before earning the extra WCHA point in the second overtime. The Chargers move to 1-13-3 (1-9-3 WCHA), while FSU goes to 5-9-2 (3-6-2 WCHA). 
 
Turning Point
-The Chargers scored a pair of goals in the first period, and Jack Jeffers scored with under two minutes remaining in the 3-on-3 WCHA overtime to help the guests earn the extra point in the league standings.
 
Scoring Breakdown
-UAH wasted no time jumping in front as Josh Latta scored off assists from Drew Lennon and Christian Rajic at 2:24 of the opening period.
-The Chargers would double their lead at 14:06 when Connor Merkley scored with Lennon picking up another helper.
-The score remained 2-0 in favor of UAH through much of the middle frame, but Marshall Moise would tally with just 36 seconds remaining in the period to pull the hosts within one.
-Moise then knotted the contest at 15:15 of the third to ultimately force overtime in which neither team was able to score.
-In the WCHA 3-on-3 overtime, Jack Jeffers scored the extra-point clincher off assists from Liam Izyk and Connor James.
 
Inside the Box Score
-Mark Sinclair finished the night with 38 saves including 18 in a busy second period, and he also made three saves in the overtime period including a pair in the closing seconds to help save the tie.
-Jeffers fired off a team-best five shots, and the Chargers finished the night with 26 as a team.
-Izyk went 10-for-19 in faceoffs on the night.
-The Chargers held Ferris State fruitless on the power play in the contest, and UAH was 0-for-2 with the man advantage though one opportunity was just three seconds in length.
-Both Lennon and Connor James finished the contest with a +2 rating.
 
Noteworthy
-The goal for Latta is his third of the season, and with Rajic's sixth assist of the year, both Latta and Rajic are tied for the team lead in points with 10.
-The two assists for Lennon are the sophomore defenseman's first of the season, and this is his first multi-point game of his career.
-Sinclair has reached at least 30 saves in six games this year including in four straight.
-UAH is 6-4-1 against Ferris State since the start of the 2016-17 campaign.

-UAH will close out the series against the Bulldogs on Saturday. The puck is set to drop at an updated time of 6:37 p.m. CT.
