VALDOSTA, Ga. | The University of Alabama in Huntsville women's basketball team played a regular season game for the first time in 19 days and showed no rust in going on the road and defeating Valdosta State by a 64-58 score on Sunday. The Chargers improve to 4-4 (2-1 Gulf South Conference), while the Lady Blazers slip to 7-2 (1-2 GSC).

-UAH went on a 15-5 run to finish the third quarter, going 7-for-12 from the floor and forcing VSU to commit six turnovers over a six-minute span to give the Chargers a lead they would not relinquish the rest of the way.

Katie Speegle had a terrific day for UAH, going 9-for-14 from the floor on her way to scoring a team-best 24 points to go along with eight rebounds.
-Joining her in double figures was
Aryn Sanders who narrowly missed out on a double-double as she scored 17 to go along with nine rebounds, and for good measure, the senior picked up a team-high six steals.

Selena Pruitt chipped in with nine points while also handing out a team-high four assists.
-For the contest, UAH shot 48.0 percent while VSU made 40.8 percent of its attempts.
-The hosts held a slim a 32-31 advantage on the glass.
-The Chargers outscored VSU by a 36-28 advantage in the paint, and UAH also held a 17-9 margin in points off turnovers.

-The Chargers shot nearly 54 percent in the first quarter and led by as many as four points early in the frame, and the two teams would go into the second quarter deadlocked at 18-18.
-Defense was the story in the second frame with both teams shooting just 20 percent from the floor, but the Lady Blazers went to the charity stripe 10 times in the quarter to slip in front 29-25 at the halftime break.
-UAH then proceeded to shoot over 52 percent in the third quarter and used a strong defensive effort to outscore VSU 19-9 in the period, creating seven turnovers that led to a 10-0 Charger advantage in points off giveaways, and the Blue and White carried a 44-38 lead into the final period.
-The guests scored 10 of the first 16 points of the fourth quarter to go up by 10 at 54-44 at the 5:59 mark of the frame, and Valdosta State could narrow the gap no closer than five the rest of the way as UAH secured the road victory.

Noteworthy
-This is UAH's first win at Valdosta State since the 1997-98 season.
-The 24 points for Speegle represent a season-high for the senior, and it is her best scoring output since she set her career high with 26 against North Alabama on Jan. 20, 2018.
-Sanders has reached double figures in five straight games, and the six steals for Sanders give her a team-high 25 on the season.
-This is the fourth time this season that UAH has forced the opposition into committing at least 19 turnovers.
