BOCA RATON, Fla. | The University of Alabama in Huntsville seventh-seeded volleyball team made its first NCAA Division II South Region Volleyball Championship appearance since 2005 on Thurday afternoon, as the Chargers fell to second-seeded Tampa by a score of 3-0 (20-25, 18-25, 23-25) at the de Hoernle Sports & Cultural Center on the campus of host Lynn. UAH ends the season with a 24-10 overall record, while UT improves to 24-8.

The Chargers 24 victories in the 2019 campaign are the most since the 2005 campaign, as the squad has now won 23 or more matches in a three consecutive seasons for the first time since 1997-99.

Abby Brooks led the Chargers offense with eight kills on the day, while rating second on the roster with eight digs.
Katie Sharp notched a double-double with 10 assists and a team-best 12 digs.

Molly Presnell and
Kendall Scharbert contributed six kills in the contest, with Scharbert owning a team-high six kills.
Sabrina Duncan posted a team-best 15 assists.

Isabelle Barnes finishes her four-year career with the Chargers with 399 total blocks, ranking her second all-time in program history. Barnes additionally caps her career with a .313 hitting percentage on 867 career kills to rate second in the program's history.

Shayla Libby wrapped up her freshman campaign with three digs to give her 524 digs in 2019. Her 524 digs this season now rank fifth in a single season in program history.

Tampa took an early lead in the first set with a 25-20 win in the frame, despite UAH making a late 3-0 run before UT's final point of the set.

After the Spartans went ahead 11-6 in the early going of the second set, the Chargers went on a 6-2 run that slimmed the deficit to 13-12. However, the Spartans went on to take the frame 25-18 by outpacing the Chargers 12-6 to wrap up the set.

The Chargers maintained a strong presence in the third set, owning an 18-11 lead in the early going. The Spartans turned the tables late in the frame to win the set 25-23.

This was the UAH volleyball program's sixth-ever appearance in the NCAA tournament and the first time competing at the South Regional.
