UAH Completes Series Sweep of McKendree with Sunday Victory

HUNTSVILLE | The University of Alabama in Huntsville baseball team completed the nonconference series sweep of McKendree with a 13-2 victory on Sunday afternoon at Charger Park. UAH improves to 5-4, while MU slips to 0-3.
 
Game-Changer
- The Chargers amassed a seven-run seventh inning to break open the series finale as UAH went on to win the Sunday matchup 13-2.
 
Scoring Breakdown
- UAH was first on the board with a pair of runs in the bottom of the second as Will Acuff was hit by a pitch with a bases loaded followed by Wes Anderson scoring on a fielder's choice.
- A solo home run by McKendree's Hayden Schaefer in the third cut the UAH lead in half, but the Chargers responded with a solo homer of their own off the bat of Will Stump in the fourth to put the hosts ahead 3-1.
- Both Landon Ezzell and Drake Hollingsworth picked up an RBI apiece in the fifth to make it 5-1 Chargers, before each side scored one run in the sixth to bring the UAH advantage to 6-2.
- UAH erupted for seven runs in the seventh inning, which included RBI base hits by Acuff, Stump, Anderson, and Garrett Bodine, to bring the game to its final score of 13-2.
 
Inside the Box Score
- UAH registered a total of 14 base hits as a team in the win, as six different Chargers had at least two base hits.
- Stump led the way with a 3-for-5 performance while tying for the team lead with three runs and three RBI. Stump's homer in the game was one of six extra-base hits by the Chargers.
- Acuff, Anderson, Bodine, Ezzell and Hollingsworthy each had two base hits against the Bearcats.
- Anderson tied with Stump with three runs in the game, while Acuff's three RBI also tied Stump for a team-high.
- Bodine ended the game 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBI and a team-high two walks out of the lead-off spot.
- Acuff registered the team's lone stolen base on Sunday.

- UAH has had five or more doubles as a team in three of the past four games, as today's six two-baggers are a season-high for the squad.
- Stump's homer was the first of his career.
