UAH Seals Series Win with Doubleheader Sweep of Shorter Monday

HUNTSVILLE |The University of Alabama in Huntsville baseball swept both games of a doubleheader against Shorter by scores of 3-2 and 3-1 on Monday afternoon at Charger Park to earn a Gulf South Conference series win. UAH improves to 7-5 (2-1 GSC), while SU dips to 7-6 (2-4 GSC).

-UAH returns to Charger Park for a doubleheader Wednesday at 2 p.m. against Miles.

Game-Changer
-With UAH trailing 2-0 in the bottom of the eighth, Will Stump delivered a clutch two-RBI double down the left field line which allowed UAH to force extras and win in the 11th inning 3-2.
 
Scoring Breakdown
-Shorter was first on the board in the second when a wild pitch by UAH starter Whitt Davis allowed the first run to score from third, and the Hawks would go on to score again in the third to lead 2-0.
-Both sides went scoreless until the eighth inning when Stump knotted the game at 2-2 with his two-RBI double to left.
-The Chargers claimed victory in the bottom of the 11th with an RBI single to left by Garrett Bodine to score Zach Duvall from second for the 3-2 victory.

- UAH totaled seven base hits in the contest as seven different Chargers had one base hit against Shorter.
- Bodine finished the game 1-for-3 with one RBI, one run and a team-high three walks.
- Malave Bettinger finished second to Bodine with two walks while going 1-for-4 at the plate.

Game-Changer
-After Shorter tied the game at 1-1 with one run in the top of the fifth, the contest turned into a battle of the bullpens as UAH relievers Brooks Brophy and Dylan Murphy held the Hawks scoreless over the final 2.2 innings while the Chargers added two runs in the six for the 3-1 victory.
 
Scoring Breakdown
-UAH was first on the board in the bottom half of the first inning when Malave Bettinger sent an RBI single up the middle.
-Shorter evened the game at 1-1 in the fifth, prior to the Chargers scoring two runs in the bottom of the sixth on a pair of errors by the Hawks to bring the game to its final score of 3-1.
 
Inside the Box Score
-The Chargers totaled five hits in the win in the night cap, paced by Tyler McCown who went 2-for-2 with a team-high two runs scored and also owned the squad's lone extra-base hit with a double.
-Malave Bettinger ended the matchup with a 1-for-2 performance with one RBI and one of the Charger two walks.
-Wes Anderson also drew a walk while going 1-for-2 at the dish.
-Cody Morrow started on the mound for the Chargers with 4.1 innings, one run allowed and five strikeouts.
-Brooks Brophy improved to 2-1 on the mound with a win in relief, as he worked 1.2 innings shutout innings with zero walks.
