UAH Picks Up 14-12 Road Win at Lincoln Memorial on Wednesday

HARROGATE, Tenn. | The University of Alabama in Huntsville men's lacrosse team earned its first victory of the season on Wednesday, pushing past Lincoln Memorial 14-12. The Chargers improve to 1-3 with the victory, while LMU slips to 2-4.
 
Turning Point
-After the hosts slipped in front by a goal at 12-11 with just 6:47 left, the Chargers answered back a minutes later when Adam Zois tied the game at 12-12 before Luke LeVette put UAH back on top another minute later with 4:44 left to propel the guests to the victory.
 
Inside the Box Score
-Freshman Brody Phillips led the Chargers on the afternoon with four goals, while both LeVette and Zach Ranta scored twice and added an assist to record a three-point day to match Nicholas Ranta who had a goal and a pair of assists.
-Adam Zois scored twice, while Joseph Stuber scored a goal and had an assist to also log two points.
-Both Josh Campbell and Mason Russell scored a goal, and Preston Deno recorded an assist.
-Leading UAH in ground balls was Colton Nall who had eight, and he caused two turnovers to match Campbell and John Forrest Ruble in that category.
-Jake Fowler won 16 faceoffs in the game.
-Zak Welsh stopped 11 shots in earning the win in the cage for the Chargers.
-The Chargers fired off 41 shots compared to 36 for LMU, and UAH also held an advantage over the Railsplitters by a 26-23 margin in shots that were on target.
-The Chargers were 15-for-19 in clear attempts.
-LMU established a 40-38 advantage in ground balls.
 
Inside the Flow
-The two teams traded goals to start the game with LMU scoring within the first minute before Zach Ranta got UAH on the board with 11:48 left in the first quarter, but the Railsplitters scored three straight to end the period to take a 4-1 lead.
-LeVette and Phillips scored the first two goals of the second quarter to chip away at the LMU lead to make it 4-3, but the hosts regained a two-goal lead with score at the 8:04 mark.
-The Chargers then got a man-up goal from Ranta and another from Phillips which came right before the expiration of the half to tie the contest at 5-5 going into the break, and Phillips scored his third at the 12:48 mark to give UAH a lead with Campbell's unassisted marker making it a 7-5 advantage with 10:45 remaining in the quarter.
-Lincoln Memorial snapped UAH's string of four straight with a goal at 8:12 before Zois and Phillips scored again to put UAH up 9-6, and the Russell score with 2:16 remaining put the Chargers up 10-7.
-The Railsplitters proceeded to score three goals in the final 1:29 of the third to tie it at 10-10, and though Stuber struck first in the fourth stanza to put UAH back in front 11-10, LMU logged the next two to go up 12-11 with 6:47 left in the game.
-Zois then tied it up, Stuber assisted on LeVette's game-winning tally, and Nicholas Ranta wrapped up the scoring to create the 14-12 final.
 
Noteworthy
-The four goals for Phillips give the Syracuse, New York, native six on the season which is tied for second on the team with Nicholas Ranta.
-LeVette now has a team-best nine goals and 10 points.
-The 14 goals for the Chargers are a season-best as are the 13 caused turnovers.
 
Next Time Out
-The Chargers will be in action on Sunday at Charger Park when Rollins visits. That contest is slated for a noon start.
