JJ Kaplan had another career night, and The University of Alabama in Huntsville men's basketball team closed out the regular season on Thursday night on the road, knocking off host West Georgia by an 83-72 score. The Chargers improve to 22-6 (15-5 Gulf South Conference), while UWG slips to 17-11 (12-8 GSC).

-The two teams will turn around and play each other again on Tuesday night in the opening round of the 2019 Gulf South Conference Men's Basketball Championship presented by VisitSpaceCoast.com. The No. 3 seed Chargers will host the No. 6 seed UWG at 7:30 p.m. at Kelly Court at Spragins Hall.

Turning Point
-An 18-5 run for UAH to close out the first half turned a nine-point deficit into a four-point halftime lead that the Chargers would not relinquish the rest of the evening.

Inside the Box Score
-Kaplan finished the night with 32 points and 13 rebounds while adding two assists and three steals, and the sophomore went 10-for-14 from the floor in addition to going 12-for-16 at the charity stripe.
-Two other Chargers scored in double figures with
Seth Swalve adding 16 and
Sam Orf chipping in with 10.
-Swalve added three assists, a showing that was matched by
Kerney Lane.
-For the game, UAH shot 57.1 percent from the floor while holding UWG to a 48.4 percent mark, and the Chargers won the rebounding battle by a 33-29 margin.

Inside the Flow
-The opening minutes of the first half saw the contest go back-and-forth, but the Wolves grabbed the game's first significant lead when they went up by nine at 33-24 with 6:51 left in the period.
-UAH closed out the half, however, on an 18-5 run with a
Malik Cook-Stroupe 3-pointer with just over a minute left lifting the Chargers to a 42-38 lead that would stand through the halftime break.
-UAH scored the first six points of the second half including four of Kaplan's 20 he would go onto score in the period to push UAH ahead 48-38 just under two minutes into the stanza, and the lead grew to 15 when
Tanner Finley hit a 3-pointer to make it 59-44 at the 11:48 mark.
-West Georgia would pull within nine just a minute later, however, but they ultimately could get no closer as the lead ballooned back out to as many as 17 as UAH went on to secure the 83-72 victory.

Noteworthy
-The 32 points are a career-best for Kaplan and represent the single-game high by a Charger this year, and his 10 field goals are tied with a pair of Orf showing as the most on the year.
-Kaplan also establishes single-game highs on the year for a UAH player with the 12 free throws made and 16 free throw attempts.
-After scoring more than 80 in four straight, the Chargers now have a scoring average of 75.8 points per game which is the highest it has been this season.
-UAH is 13-2 in its last 15 games and has won six straight.
