UAH Opens Series at CBU with 15-3 Win to Capture Royer's Record-Setting Victory

MEMPHIS, Tenn. | The University of Alabama in Huntsville baseball team went on the road for a 15-3 drubbing of Christian Brothers on Friday afternoon to open the three-game Gulf South Conference series. UAH improves to 10-5 (3-1 GSC), while CBU dips to 4-10 (1-6 GSC).
 
Noteworthy
- Head coach Hunter Royer captured his 277th career victory in the win, which makes him the program's all-time wins leader.
- UAH's 15 runs scored are the most this season.
- Ramsey has now hit two grand slams in his career.
 
Game-Changer
- The Chargers offense was electric in the series opener as the squad totaled four multi-run innings – highlighted by a six-run fifth – to help the Blue & White to a 15-3 win on Friday.
 
Scoring Breakdown
- UAH was on the board first in the top of the first as Malave Bettinger connected on a two-RBI single, and the Chargers added four more runs to their total in the third – headlined by Drake Hollinsworth's two-run single – to make it a 6-0 UAH lead.
- CBU added one run in the third, which was negated in the top of the fourth on Ko Powell's sacrifice fly that plated Zach Duvall from third.
- UAH amassed a six-run rally in the fifth which featured bases loaded walks by Powell and Tyler McCown followed by a grand slam by Nolan Ramsey to put the Chargers ahead 13-1.
- The Bucs scored a pair of runs in the fifth to slim the UAH lead to 13-3, before Will Acuff made it 15-3 with a two-RBI single to left.
 
Inside the Box Score
- The Chargers offense featured three multi-hit performances, led by Hollingsworth and Powell with three hits and two RBI apiece.
- Powell tied Tyler McCown – who went 2-for-3 with a team-high two walks – with three runs scored to share the roster lead.
- Ramsey finished with a team-high four RBI thanks to his grand slam.
- Acuff and Bettinger both had one run, one hit, two RBI and one walk.
- UAH totaled 13 base hits and eight walks in the win over CBU.
- Tyler Self improved to 3-1 with the win, after tossing 5.0 innings with three earned runs allowed, one walk and five strikeouts.
