HUNTSVILLE | The Gulf South Conference announced its winter academic awards on Thursday, and The University of Alabama in Huntsville placed a conference-best 21 student-athletes on the academic honor roll while also having three all-academic selections.
 
UAH has led or tied for the lead in honor roll recipients each year since 2016.
 
On the All-Academic Teams, men's basketball claimed two of the six spots with both JJ Kaplan and Sam Orf earning the accolade, while on the women's side, Aryn Sanders also earned the prestigious honor.
 
All three were also CoSIDA Academic All-District choices.
 
Kaplan owns a 3.74 GPA in economics and finance, and he turned in a strong sophomore campaign on the floor by scoring 13.7 points per game, grabbing 8.6 rebounds per contest, and shooting 52.8 percent.
 
Orf has posted a 3.86 GPA in fitness and sports management, and in his second season in the Blue and White, he led the team with 14.5 points per contest while shooting 50.5 percent overall and connecting on 68 3-pointers.
 
Both Kaplan and Orf were Second Team All-GSC honorees, also.
 
Sanders owns an impressive 3.92 GPA in accounting, and she was also strong on the court this year, scoring 15.7 points per game to go along with a rebounding average of 7.6 per contest.
 
GSC All-Academic honorees must have a 3.2 cumulative GPA and have made significant contributions to their respective teams during the 2018-19 campaign.
 
The full list of the 2019 GSC Winter Honor Roll recipients from UAH is below. All student-athletes who competed in the winter with a 3.0 cumulative GPA are eligible for the GSC Honor Roll.
