Chargers Earn 5-3 Victory Over Sewanee at Charger Park

HUNTSVILLE | A big first half propelled The University of Alabama in Huntsville women's soccer team to a 5-3 victory over visiting Sewanee on Wednesday night at Charger Park. UAH improves to 2-2-1 with the win, while the Tigers slip to 1-4-1.
 
Turning Points
-UAH scored early and often to start the game with freshman Peggy Mathis scoring in the 10th minute and again in the 12th minute to give a quick 2-0 lead.
-The advantage quickly would grow for the Chargers as Melanie Brannon scored just 34 seconds after Mathis to make it 3-0, and Brannon would add another marker in the 23rd to give the hosts a 4-0 lead that would hold through the halftime break.
-The guests got on the board in the 50th minute when Addie Roemershauser scored, but the Chargers regained the four-goal advantage in the 69th when Brynn Colvin scored to make it 5-1.
-Sewanee then added goals in the 73rd and 77th to produce the 5-3 final.
 
Inside the Box Score
-In addition to the goal, Colvin also assisted on three scores, while Brannon added an assist to her pair of scores.
-Shots were even in the contest at 16-16 with the Chargers holding an 11-10 margin in shots on target, and the Blue and White earned seven corners to Sewanee's five.
-Brannon led the team with three shots of which each were on goal, while each of Laura Hasani, Jessica Bissinger, Mathis, and Colvin registered a pair of attempts.
-Adriana Wright earned the victory in goal for the Chargers, posting four saves in the first half, while Megan Buford played the entirety of the second half and recorded three stops.
 
Noteworthy
-The goals for Mathis represent the first collegiate scores for the freshman.
-The win in goal for Wright is the first collegiate victory for the freshman.
-Colvin now has eight goals and six assists for 22 points which is already the most by a Charger player in a season since the 2016 campaign.
-Brannon logs her fourth and fifth goals of the year while moving her point total to 12.
 
Next Time Out
-The Chargers will be off until the team opens up conference play a week from Friday on Sept. 27 at Delta State. Kick-off in Cleveland, Mississippi, is scheduled for 1 p.m.
