UAH Throttles Tennessee Wesleyan in First Action of New Year

HUNTSVILLE | The University of Alabama in Huntsville women's basketball team opened up the 2020 calendar year with a 73-47 drubbing of Tennessee Wesleyan in nonconference action at Kelly Court at Spragins Hall on Thursday evening. UAH improves to 6-5, while TWC dips to 5-8.
 
Turning Point
- After taking a three-point advantage into the first quarter break, UAH outpaced Tennessee Wesleyan 19-9 in the second quarter for a 36-23 lead at the half on the way to the 73-47 victory on Thursday.
 
Inside the Box Score
- Aryn Sanders poured in a team-high 22 points on the night, as she went 9-for-17 from the field and 3-for-4 from beyond the arc.
- Sanders nearly notched a double-double by tying for the roster lead with nine rebounds, while also nabbing a team-best four steals.
- Holly Harris rated second on the roster with 16 points, thanks to a roster-high four three-pointers made.
- Katie Speegle gave UAH three players in double-digit scoring with 12 points while tying with Sanders with nine rebounds.
- Speegle paced the defense with two blocks.
- Emme Willoughby generated a team-high four assists, as a total of five Chargers had multi-assist performances.

- UAH dominated on the boards in the first quarter with a 17-11 overall edge that included seven offensive rebounds, as the Chargers worked their way to a 17-14 lead after 10 minutes of play.
- The Blue and White closed out the final 4:22 of the second quarter with a 10-4 run for a 36-23 lead over the Bulldogs at halftime.
- The Chargers had their highest offensive output of the contest in the second quarter as UAH outscored TWC 20-12 in the frame – highlighted by a 4-of-8 mark on three-pointers by the hosts – to lead 56-35 entering the fourth stanza.
- UAH went on to the 73-47 victory with a 17-12 edge in the fourth quarter.
