UAH Skates to 2-2 Tie at Lake Superior State in Series Opener

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. | The University of Alabama in Huntsville hockey team skated to a 2-2 tie with Lake Superior State on Saturday afternoon at Taffy Abel Arena the opener of a two-game nonconference series. UAH moves to 0-2-1, while LSSU's record sits at 3-0-2.
 
Turning Point
-After going down two goals in the first period, UAH tied the game at 5:39 in the middle period on a power-play tally by reigning HCA National Rookie of the Month Tyrone Bronte which allowed the Chargers defense to hold on for the 2-2 tie.
 
Scoring Breakdown
-Lake Superior State went ahead first in the contest at 13:56 of the opening period on a goal by Miroslav Mucha, which was quickly followed by a tally at 14:16 by Chase Gamelin to give the Lakers a 2-0 lead heading to intermission.
-The Chargers cut the Lakers lead in half at the 4:30 mark of the second period on a rebound goal by Adrian Danchenko thanks to assists by Quinn Green and Ben Allen.
-UAH evened up the contest on the power play at 5:39 of the second as Tyrone Bronte cleaned up a puck in the crease. Both Bauer Neudecker and Lucas Bahn notched assists on the score.
-UAH goalie David Fessenden went 21-for-21 on saves in the second, third and overtime periods which helped keep the Lakers scoreless following the first.

-Fessenden picked up the tie in goal to move to 0-0-1 on the year, as he totaled 25 saves in the contest.
-UAH limited LSSU to zero goals in four power-play chances, while the Chargers went 1-for-2 on man-advantage opportunities.
-The Chargers accrued 25 shots on goal against the Lakers, led by Danchenko and Green with four apiece.
 
Noteworthy
-Bronte's goal was his first career marker.
-Bronte and Neudecker have posted at least one point in three straight games.
-This is Lance West's first tie as head coach at UAH.
-Bahn now leads all UAH defensemen with two assists.
