UAH Edged in Series Finale at Lake Superior State

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. | The University of Alabama in Huntsville hockey team wrapped up a two-game nonconference series at Lake Superior State with a 3-2 loss on Sunday afternoon at Taffy Abel Arena. UAH dips to 0-3-1, while LSSU improves to 4-0-2.
 
Turning Point
­-After UAH slimmed the Lake Superior State lead to one goal in the second period, the Lakers notched a key goal at 1:36 of the third by Miroslav Mucha which would be the eventual game-winner in the hosts 3-2 win on Sunday.
 
Scoring Breakdown
-The Lakers first went on the board at 14:16 of the first period with a rebound goal by Ashton Calder, as LSSU went on to add another late goal at 19:26 to take a 2-0 lead into intermission.
-UAH cut the LSSU lead in half with one goal in the second period at the 8:58 mark, when Brian Scoville sent home a rebound off a shot by Quinn Green.
-Both teams were active early into the third period as the Lakers pushed their lead to 3-1 at 1:36 on a goal by Mucha, which the Chargers negated at 3:13 on a wrist-shot goal by Frank Vitucci from in front of the net. Connor Witherspoon notched an assist on Vitucci's marker.
-Neither side would score down the stretch as the game finished with a 3-2 final score.
 
Inside the Box Score
-Derek Krall made the start in goal for the Chargers, turning in 16 saves with three goals allowed. His record dips to 0-2-0 with the loss.
-The two teams combined for a total of 14 penalties in the contest, but neither side could convert on power-play chances with UAH owning six man-advantages and LSSU recording five.
-The Chargers put a total of 23 shots on goal, led by junior defensemen Dayne Finnson with four shots on target.
-Adrian Danchenko and Ayodele Adeniye each had three shots on goal to rank second to Finnson.
-UAH blocked 15 shots as a team, with Adeniye and Scoville notching a team-high three blocks apiece.
-Tyrone Bronte led the Chargers in the face-off circle with nine wins, followed by Connor Merkley with eight.
 
Noteworthy
-Both Scoville and Vitucci recorded their first career goal and point.
-Green has assists in back-to-back games.
-Witherspoon's assist was the first of his career.

-UAH returns to action on Tuesday with a nonconference tilt at Ferris State. Puck drops at 4:07 p.m. on Tuesday.
