UAH Throtles UWA to Push Win Streak to Best in Six Seasons

HUNTSVILLE | The University of  Alabama in Huntsville women's basketball team picked up its fifth straight victory on Thursday, knocking off West Alabama by a final score of 70-46 at Kelly Court at Spragins Hall. UAH improves to 12-8 (9-5 Gulf South Conference) with the victory, while UWA falls to 10-10 (5-9 GSC).
 
Turing Point
-The Chargers held West Alabama to 15 points or fewer in each quarter, using a terrific defensive effort to never trail in the game.
 
Inside the Box Score
-Selena Pruitt led the Chargers offense with 19 points while shooting 7-8 from the field and tying for the team lead in rebounds with five.
-Holly Harris chipped in 12 points, while Aryn Sanders had 10 points to go along with five rebounds.
-Katie Speegle had a well-rounded night with nine points, five rebounds, and tied for a team-high three assists.
-Miya Kimber led added a double-double for UWA with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
-For the contest, the Chargers held UWA to a 31.0 percent shooting mark and did not allow a 3-pointer on the 13 attempts for the visitors, and UAH connected on 45.9 percent of its attempts from the floor.
-The Tigers had the advantage on the glass, outrebounding the Chargers by a 38-36 clip.
 
Inside the Flow
-West Alabama briefly tied the game at 2-2 a minute into the contest, but the Chargers would push the lead into double figures by the 4:05 mark at 14-5 en route to holding a 22-11 advantage at the end of the first.
-UAH then outscored the guests by a 15-6 margin, holding UWA to just three buckets and none in the final 5:44 of the second quarter to go up by 20 at 37-17 at the halftime break.
-The lead ballooned to as many as 28 in the third quarter as the Chargers led 59-31 by the end of the period.
-Despite UWA outscoring the Chargers 15-11 in the fourth, the home team would see its lead get no smaller than 22 while securing the 70-46 victory.
 
Noteworthy
-UAH extends its season long winning streak to five games which is the longest for the team since the 2013-14 season.
-This is UAH's third-best defensive effort of the season, and the team lowers its opponent scoring average to 64.6 points per contest.
-Pruitt has reached double figures in 11 games and matches her career high with the 19 points.
-Harris has reached double figures in five straight.

-The Chargers are back in action on Saturday at Kelly Court at Spragins Hall against Montevallo. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m.
