VIERA, Fla. | The No. 18 University of Alabama in Huntsville softball team picked up a pair of victories on Friday, outlasting Angelo State 8-6 in the day's first game before winning a low-scoring affair against No. 9 Florida Tech by a 3-2 score. UAH improves to 4-2 on the season.

Game Changer
-An Angelo State miscue in the bottom of the fourth with two outs turned a 6-6 ballgame into an 8-6 lead for the Chargers as
Reagan Malone and
Shelby Booker scampered home to score the difference-making runs.

Inside the Box Score
-UAH outhit ASU by a 9-7 margin in the contest, with eight different Chargers having a hit in the game.

Alaina Hampton had a 2-for-3 showing at the plate, driving in two runs and scoring another, while each of Malone,
Ashley Cornell, and
Shannon Long also recorded an RBI.

-Angelo State threatened to score in the first but would leave the bases loaded, but the Rams would break through in the top of the second by going up 3-0.
-The Chargers were not fazed by the early deficit, however, as the first five batters in the home half of the inning all had hits with Hampton's two-run double followed by a double from Long tying the game at 3-3.
-A sac fly from Malone later in the inning put UAH ahead for the first time,
Kaylee Vaught then scored the fifth run on an error, and Cornell singled in another run to create a 6-3 advantage for the Chargers who sent nine to plate in the inning.
-A scoreless third would follow before ASU got a two-run homer and a run-scoring single in the fourth tie the contest at 6-6.
-After the first two UAH batters were retired in the bottom frame, a Malone single followed by a pair of steals and a walk from Booker would give the Chargers runners at first and third, allowing them to score on the ASU error on a ball put in play by Cornell.
-Both teams went 1-2-3 in the fifth and were scoreless in the sixth, allowing Uhlman to come in and work around a leadoff walk, retiring the three batters she faced to seal the 8-6 victory.

-With the bases loaded in the bottom of the sixth, Uhlman picked up her lone strikeout of her appearance in the contest to keep the Chargers ahead by a run.

-The Chargers racked up seven hits while allowing just four to Florida Tech, and both
Mackenzie Nutt and
Kiara Akles had a pair in the game.
-One of Nutt's hits was a double, while Akles had a home run.
-Each of Malone, Cornell, and Akles had an RBI in the game.
-Akles tossed 1.2 innings and struck out a pair before yielding to
Torie Garner who earned the win by pitching 2.1 innings and allowing just one unearned run.
-Uhlman then threw the final three innings, giving up just one hit and not permitting a run in earning another save.

-The Chargers would manufacture the first run of the contest when Malone led off the game with a single, moved to second when Hampton was hit by a pitch, and advanced to third on a wild pitch, allowing her to score on Cornell's sac fly to left.
-After Akles tossed a 1-2-3 inning in the bottom of the first, she led off the second with a solo shot to left center, pushing the Chargers in front 2-0.
-Florida Tech would push a run across in the bottom of the second to cut the UAH lead in half, but after a scoreless third, and RBI single from Malone would plate Vaught who had a base hit earlier in the inning to give UAH its two-run lead back at 3-1.
-A Charger miscue then led to Florida Tech's second run in the bottom of the fifth, and after Uhlman got the big strikeout to end the sixth, she worked around another error in the bottom of the seventh to end the contest.

-Uhlman has logged 10 saves for her UAH career with the pair this season, and that ties her for fourth all-time in UAH history.
-The home run is the second of the season for Akles, and she now owns six RBI.
-The Chargers have five sac flies on the season which is tops in the GSC.
