UAH Wins Ninth Straight in Sweep-Clinching 19-9 Victory over CBU Sunday


HUNTSVILLE | The University of Alabama in Huntsville baseball team won its ninth consecutive game with a 19-9 sweep-clinching win in seven innings over Christian Brothers on Sunday afternoon at Charger Park in the final game of a three-game Gulf South Conference series. UAH improves to 15-5 (10-2 GSC), while CBU dips to 4-17 (1-10 GSC).
 
Game-Changer
- UAH put together a pair of six-run rallies in the bottom of the second and the bottom of the fifth on the way to the 19-9 victory on Sunday.
 
Scoring Breakdown
- UAH went on the board in the bottom of the first on an RBI single to left by Palmer Ford, prior to CBU going in front with a three-run homer in the second inning.
- The Chargers responded with a six-run rally in the bottom half of the second to turn the tables and lead the Bucs 7-3.
- Both sides added one run in the third to make it 8-4 UAH, before a three-run inning in the fourth by CBU slimmed the hosts advantage to 8-7.
- UAH plated four runs in the fourth – highlighted by a two-RBI double by Garrett Bodine – to put UAH ahead 12-7.
- The Chargers erupted for six more runs in the fifth to extend the lead to 18-7, headlined by a three-run homer to left-center by Bodine.
- The Buccaneers added two runs in the sixth to slim UAH's lead to 18-9, but a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the seventh by Landon Ezzell delivered the Chargers a 19-9 walk-off win.
 
Inside the Box Score
- Bodine finished the day with a team-high three runs and five RBI while going 2-for-5 at the plate with a homer and a double.
- Ezzell and Trousdale each had three hits in the victory, as Ezzell also added four RBI to rank second on the roster and Trousdale additionally was tied for first on the squad with three runs.
- Will Acuff also had three runs scored in the game to tie for the team lead, while going 2-for-5 with one RBI.
- Malave Bettinger had a team-high four base hits with one run scored, two RBI, one walk and one double.
- Trousdale stole a team-high two bases.
- Bettinger, Palmer Ford, Zach Duvall and Trousdale each posted two RBI in the contest to rank tied for third on the team.
- The Chargers had 19 total base hits and five walks.
- Harper Case started on the mound for the Chargers with 2.2 innings, four runs and one walk.
- Wells Deloney earned the win in relief to improve to 1-0 on the season, after working 2.1 innings with three runs allowed and two strikeouts.
 
Noteworthy
- UAH has scored 15 or more runs in four straight GSC games, which extends a program record.
- The Chargers nine-game win streak is the longest such streak by a GSC team this season.
- With a career-high five RBI today, Bodine amassed 11 RBI during the weekend series.
