No. 25 UAH Wins Seventh Straight, Sweeps CBU

HUNTSVILLE | The No. 25 University of Alabama in Huntsville softball team made it two straight conference sweeps as the Chargers defeated Christian Brothers 9-1 in six innings to improve to 15-6 (10-2 Gulf South Conference). The Bucs fall to 9-17 (3-9 GSC).
 
Game Changer
-The Chargers put an eight-spot up on the board in the fourth inning to take total control of the contest.
 
Inside the Box Score
-UAH outhit the Bucs by an 8-4 margin, with Kiara Akles turning in a team-best 3-for-4 day with two RBI and a run scored.
-Ashley Cornell had a pair of hits including a double and drove in two runs.
-Mackenzie Nutt walked twice and scored a team-best twice, and Reagan Malone also drew a pair of free passes to help UAH earn five walks in the game.
-Ava Jacobs went the distance in the circle for the Chargers as she scattered four hits and gave up just one run while striking out two in the six innings of work.
 
Key Plays
-The game was scoreless through the first three innings, and it was CBU who took the first lead with a solo homer in the top of the fourth.
-The Chargers then sent 13 to the plate in the bottom of the fourth inning to immediately answer, and each of Akles, Alaina Hampton, Malone, Eve Mallard, Cornell, and Nutt drove in runs in the inning.
-Jacobs then retired CBU in order in both the fifth and sixth innings, and Akles ended the game when she doubled in Nutt in the bottom of the sixth to create the 9-1 final.
 
Noteworthy
-This is the fourth multi-hit game of the year for Akles, and it is the fourth time she has driven in at least four runs.
-Cornell is now tied for the team lead in doubles with seven on the year.
-Jacobs picks up her seventh win of the season in the circle.
 
Next Time Out
-UAH will return to action with a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Tuesday against Tuskegee at Charger Park.
