CLEVELAND, Miss. | Completing another weekend sweep, the No. 18 University of Alabama in Huntsville men's basketball team hung on in the closing seconds for a 69-68 road win at Delta State. The Chargers improve to 6-1 (6-0 Gulf South Conference), while the Statesmen fall to 0-4 (0-4 GSC).
Â
Turning Point
-With the Chargers leading by seven and just 1:19 left in the game, the Statesmen put together a furious comeback attempt that saw DSU score eight of the game's final 10 points, but a 3-point try on the final possession of the game – after forcing the Chargers into a pair of turnovers in the last seven seconds – was off the mark, giving the road win to UAH.

Inside the Box Score
-
Sam Orf led the Chargers in the contest, going 9-for-15 from the floor including three triples on his way to scoring 27, and he also paced the team on the glass as he collected eight rebounds while adding two assists and a steal for good measure.
-Joining him in double figures was
Seth Swalve who connected on five of his nine attempts to score 16 while also grabbing three boards.
-
Max Shulman picked up a team-high four steals to go along with five rebounds and two assists.
-For the game, Delta State outshot the Chargers by a 45.5 percent to 41.8 percent clip, while the guests won the battle on the glass by a 37-32 margin.
-With eight Chargers recording points in the game, UAH's bench provided the Chargers with a key 18-10 difference in reserve points.Â

Inside the Flow
-After the Chargers went up 8-4 early on in the first half, Delta State would go in front, eventually building up a 24-16 lead by the 8:50 mark of the half.
-The visitors would answer, however, with an Orf layup making it a 29-29 game with 3:43 left in the period, and though Delta State would briefly push its lead back out to five, the teams would go into the locker room at the half with the Statesmen holding just a 34-33 advantage.
-The second half was one of momentum swings, and the pendulum swung first in DSU's favor as an 11-2 run for the hosts provided them with a 51-42 lead at the 12:23 mark.
-But within one minute it was down to a one-point ballgame as the Chargers would go on what was eventually to be a 15-3 spurt that put the visitors in front by a 57-54 score with 6:43 left in the contest.
-The Statesmen would knot the contest at 60-60 with just over three minutes left, but Orf would score nine for the Chargers in a two-minute span, giving UAH a cushion that would prove insurmountable despite the late push from DSU.
Â
Noteworthy
-Orf's scoring performance is just one off his career-best which he set when he scored 28 against Union earlier this season, and he is leading the team with a scoring average of 19.0 points per game.
-The four steals for Shulman make a single-game high by a Charger this year.
-The 6-0 start to conference play is the program's best since the 2012-13 team began the GSC slate 5-1.
Â
Next Time Out
-The Chargers are scheduled to return home to Kelly Court at Spragins Hall on Friday when West Alabama visits for a two-game set. Tip-off is slated for 6 p.m.
