Chargers Battle Hard in 1-0 Setback to Mississippi College

HUNTSVILLE | The University of Alabama in Huntsville women's soccer team put up a strong fight, but an early goal would prove to be the difference as Mississippi College was a 1-0 winner on Friday afternoon at Charger Park. UAH slips to 3-2-1 (1-1-0 Gulf South Conference) with the setback, while MC improves to 6-2-0 (4-1-0 GSC).

Dani Avelar would score on the first shot of the game, putting Mississippi College up 1-0 in the fifth minute of the contest, and that would ultimately prove to be the difference maker in the game.

Keeping her team in the game, Adriana Wright would make three saves in the first half to keep it 1-0 at the half, and the Hedland, Alabama, native would make three more in the second 45 minutes to total six on the day.

Wright's teammates would nearly bring the contest level in the 79th minute of the game as Carmen Endicott would fire a shot off the post and the rebound try was put on frame by Melanie Brannon but saved by the MC keeper to preserve the lead for the visiting side.

For the game, Mississippi College outshot UAH by a 12-6 clip including a 7-2 edge in shots on goal, and the guests also earned seven corners to UAH's one.

Endicott and Brannon had both of UAH's on-target attempts.

The Chargers will now aim to bounce back on Sunday when the team welcomes Delta State to the Rocket City for a 1 p.m. contest. Admission for that game – and every regular season game this year – will be free courtesy of Alabama Credit Union.
