UAH Wins Big Over Shorter on Senior Night

HUNTSVILLE | The University of Alabama in Huntsville women's soccer team picked up an emphatic Senior Night victory on Friday, defeating visiting Shorter by a 4-0 score at Charger Park. UAH improves to 6-6-2 (4-5-1 Gulf South Conference), while SU slips to 2-13-0 (1-10-0 GSC).

The first three goals of the night came from among those who were honored in a special pregame ceremony as Mackenzie Kandil scored in the 23rd, followed rapidly by Brynn Colvin in the 24th to give the Chargers a 2-0 lead that would hold through the halftime break.

Melanie Brannon – who assisted on Kandil's score – would then put UAH in front by three in the 61st minute, and the scoring was completed by Laura Hasani off an assist from Caroline Buchanan in the 73rd.

With her score, Colvin now has seven on the year, including three in the last four games, and she now sits just one goal out of fourth all-time at UAH with 27 career scores.

Brannon's goal is her first of the campaign, while she also is in a three-way tie for the team lead in assists with three.

Hasani sits in second on the squad now with four goals on the year, and Kandil picks up her second of the season.

Shorter outshot the Chargers by a 13-12 margin on the night, though UAH had a 9-6 edge in shots on target and a 6-3 advantage in corners earned.

Hailey Hicks stopped all six on-frame shots to earn her first collegiate clean sheet.

The victory for the Chargers is their fourth straight against the visitors from Rome, Georgia, and the four goals mark the most-ever from a UAH squad against Shorter.

The Blue and White will now turn its attention to Sunday as the team welcomes No. 2 Lee to Charger Park. Kick-off is slated for 1 p.m.
