COLUMBUS, Ga. | The University of Alabama in Huntsville women's basketball team stumbled on the road on Saturday at Columbus State, falling to the Cougars 63-55. The Chargers slip to 0-4 while CSU improves to 4-0.
Jirah Rogers put up 14 points and picked up eight boards to lead the Chargers in both categories while Selena Pruitt was also in double figures for UAH with 13 points.
Alaina Taylor dished out six assists to lead all players on the afternoon.
The hosts pushed out to a six point advantage in the game's opening minutes but after some back and forth throughout the rest of the quarter, UAH would find themselves in the lead 17-16 before a Columbus State triple in the last minute would give the hosts a 19-18 advantage after the first. The Chargers would take the lead three minutes into the second frame after a Sloan Mann 3-pointer would put them up 26-24. This ignited a 14-8 run for the rest of the period as UAH would see themselves out in front 37-32 at the halftime whistle.
The Chargers would still hold the lead at the end of the third quarter, but Columbus State was able to cut their deficit to three points as UAH led 47-44 going into the last quarter. A 12-0 run by the Cougars in the first few minutes of the fourth would be the turning point in the game as CSU was able to hold on for a 63-55 win after being up by as many as 11.
For the contest, UAH hit 53.5 percent of its attempts from the floor while holding Columbus State to a 37.7 percent shooting performance. The Cougars were able to capitalize on their trips to the free-throw line, going 11-for-18 while the Chargers went 3-for-8.
Kristyn Goshay, Chrisalyn Boston, Imani Arnold, and Alycia Reese were all in double figures for CSU while Boston recorded a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds.
UAH will look to bounce back as they return home to host Milligan at Spragins Hall on Monday, Nov. 29th.
Tip-off in Huntsville is slated for 5:30 p.m.
