UAH Tripped Up in Series Opener at Lake Superior State Frirday

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. | The University of Alabama in Huntsville dropped the Western Collegiate Hockey Association series opener at Lake Superior State by a final score of 2-1 on Friday night at Taffy Abel Arena. UAH dips to 3-11-1 (3-6-0 WCHA), while LSSU improves to 11-4-3 (5-3-0 WCHA).
 
Turning Point
-After tying the game at 11:15 of the third period, Lake Superior State was provided with a late goal by William Riedell with less than 10 seconds remaining to give the Lakers the 2-1 win on Friday.
 
Scoring Breakdown
-Both sides went scoreless in the first period, as UAH starting goaltender David Fessenden held the Lakers scoreless with 13 saves in the opening frame.
-UAH pulled ahead at 12:29 of the second period when Bennett Stockdale snuck a shut past LSSU goalie Mareks Mitens's five-hole. Both Josh Martin and Drew Lennon notched assists on the go-ahead goal.
-Lake Superior State tied the game at 1-1 at 11:15 of the third period on a goal by Jacob Nordqvist, before Riedell put the hosts ahead 2-1 with a power-play marker with 9.2 seconds remaining.

-UAH totaled 10 shots on goal on Friday, led by Quinn Green and Conor Witherspoon with two each.
-David Fessenden took the loss to drop to 3-5-1 on the season, despite accruing 26 saves on the night.
