HUNTSVILLE | Thanks in part to a massive stop from
Giancarlo Martinez on a penalty kick in the second overtime, The University of Alabama in Huntsville men's soccer team played to a 0-0 draw with Lee at the Merrimack Complex on Monday afternoon. The Chargers move to 1-0-2 with the tie, while Lee goes to 0-1-2.
Â
Turning Points
-UAH had two great chances early in rapid succession as
Shalev Keter's attempt in the 17th was turned aside by the Lee keeper, and it was only the crossbar that prevented the Chargers from going up in the 18th as
Connor Young's shot caromed off the woodwork.
-There would be just four additional shots on goal through the rest of the regulation, sending the game into overtime scoreless.
-Neither team generated a shot that was on target in the first overtime period, but there were certainly dramatic moments in the second 10 minutes of extra time.
-Lee would have a shot hit the crossbar in the 103rd minute and just seconds later in the same minute were awarded a penalty kick, but Martinez rose to the challenge, diving to his left and using his right arm to record the save.
